To all whom 'it may concern:

Be it known that I, LOUIS A. HAZARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Union Overall-Garments, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in the construction of combination overalls, that is, trousers and jacket, such as are worn by men employed as mechanics.

The object of the invention is to provide an outer union garment in which the trou sers and jacket are united at the front but separated at the back and the jacket-tail extends below the top of the trousers.

The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in whieh,-

Figure 1 is a view of the front of the garment and shows the jacket part unbuttoned down the center. Fig. 2 is a view of the back of the union garment. Fig. 3 is an enlarged View of the suspender. Fig. 4 is an enlarged view showing a portion of the union garment and the jaeket-tail thereof extending down below the top of the 4back part of the trousers.

The trousers part of this union garment, measuring from the bottoms up to the abdominal-band at the front, is shorter at the front than at the back',l and the jacket part, measuring from the collar down to the said abdominal-band at the front, is also shorter at the front than at the back.

The front of this union garment is made up of four pieces of fabric, namely, the two fronts, 1, 1, of the trousers, and the two breast pieces, 2, 2, of the jacket. Two abdominal cross-bands, 3, 3, are employed; each of these bands unite a leg-front of the trousers and a breast-front of the jacket. The fly-opening, 4, of the trousers front and the vertical center opening, 5, of the jacket front are continuations. Besides the economy in cutting the goods that results from this four-piece front construction of union garment. there is also produced thereby a better conformation and fit of the garment.

The back of the trousers part is made up of two pieces, 6, 6, united at the seat by a vertical seam, 7; the top of the back, 8, of the trousers extends upward higher than the abdominal band, 8, at the front; this is shown in Fig. 1.

The top part of the back, 8, of the trousers is separated at both sides from the two fronts, 1, 1, by a vertical side-opening, 9, and said top-part at each side is fastened to the front by a button, 10. It will be understood this allows the said top part, 8, of the back when unbuttoncd to fall or be lowered.

The back, 11, of the jacket is longer than the front or breast pieces, 2; this back part has at its bottom a tail or flap, 12, that extends down outside of the trousers and gives to the union garment the appearance of a coat. The tail or flap, 12, of the back of the jacket hangs down free and its bottom edge is much lower than the abdominal cross bands, 3, 3 of the front.

At the back the fall part, 8, of the trousers is sustained and held up by a suitable elastic suspender, 111, which is attached by a loop, 15, to the back, 11, of the jacket.

Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,-
