Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, DANiEL Kors, a citizen of the United States, residing in the borough of Manhattan, in the city, county, and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Apparel-Corsets, of which the following is a specification.

Heretofore and in Letters Patent granted to me March 9, 1909, No. 914,732, July 20, 1909, No. 928,669 and January 11, 1910, No. 946,232, I aimed to create a corset particularly adapted for the use of women of stout figures and which corsets were adapted to and did apply tension to and around abdominal protuberance, with the desired holding, supporting and reducing effect. There are, however, many women who are lacking in abdominal protuberance yet are very broad owing to over-development of the upper thighs and whose figures it is desirable to fit with a suitable reducing corset adapted to reach a plane below that of an abdominal corset, whereby the thigh at the upper part is inclosed with a binding and reducing tension against any over-development thereof and for the gradual reduction thereof to more graceful lines and a more comfortable avoirdupois.

In the corset of my invention I continue or prolong the fabric body below the steels and the skirt extensions to a much greater extent than in the device of my Patent No. 946,232 of January 11, 1910, and also very appreciably lengthen the extensions or prolongations of the inclined tapering straps. I provide fastening devices between the adjacent edges of the corset below the steels and also at the lower part of the corset adjacent thereto and in the prolongations of the inclined straps. I also employ wide elastic webbing members secured at upright edges to the lower forward corners of the skirt extensions and to the back edges of the prolongations of the inclined straps. The lower forward corners ol' the skirt extensions come at the sides of the wearer, and the said skirtextensions and elastic webbing members extend around over the thighs; a drawing tension being applied thereto by the anchorage of said parts to the corset at the front.

In the drawing my improved corset is illustrated by an elevation in which the parts at one side are connected in position for use, while certain parts at the other side are disconnected and turned over so as more clearly with the usual front gores o, and d repre- Y sents the usual bone pockets in which pockets are indicatedV the lower ends of the bones so that the depth of the skirt extensions below the same may be fully appreciated.

c represents the inclined tapering straps which are fully shown and described in my hereinbefore named patents and now well recognized in the corset art. f arel skirt extensions or prolongations of these inclined tapering straps e which while shown in my Patent No. 946,232, are in the present application of much greater extent or depth than those shown in said patent; being formed either integral with the said straps c or of fabric parts connected therewith. In the adjacent free ends of said inclined tapering straps e are eyelets 2 adapted adjustably for connecting the free ends of said straps to the posts 3 in the corset steels g L represent the skirt extensions of the corset below the lower ends of the bones and which skirt extensions or prolongations are either integral with the fabric body of the corset or securely fastened thereto and extending from the lines of eyelets at the back around the sides toward the front. rlhese skirt extensions are provided at their lower front corners preferably with hose supporters 4 5 and there are also -preferably hose supporters 6 7 from the front members of the corset directly below the steels l).

In the extensions of the fabric body of the corset below the front steels, I have placed and employ hook members 8 9 which serve for connecting these flexible parts to one another, so that their edges are adjacent the same as the edges of the fabric body at the steels l) and I also provide and have shown eye-members 10 in the lower front portions of the corset about on a line with the lower attaching devices of the hook members 8 9, and I have shown and provide hook members 11 on the forward edges of the skirt extensions f adapted to engage either one of the eye-members 10.

I have shown and prefer to employ hose supporter devices 12 connected to the lower ends of the skirt extensions f; all of said hose supporter devices providing for a downward pull and also a support for the hose.

The essential feature of my invention comprises the wide elastic webbing members z' which extend between the skirt extensions g h of the corset to the skirt extensions f of the inclined tapering straps. These elastic members are secured at their distant up right edges to the lower forward corners of the skirt extensions g' t and also to the forwardly inclined back edges of the prolongations f or extensions of the inclined straps and these elastic webbing members are in a plane below the plane of the elastic members in my Patent No. 946,232, are placed in a different position and perform a dierent function, for while the elastic members of said patent are in the abdominal region and perform a supporting function and tension thereon, the elastic webbing members of my present invention, overlie the upper part of the thighs and produce with the skirt extensions of the corset, a tension all around the bodyat the thighs, with a simultaneous reducing eect in an effort to modify, correct and reduce a figure of unnecessary or abnormal breadth; the aim sought and the function performed being dierent from that iny my former patents hereinbefore recited.

The hook members 8 9 in the device of my presentinvention below the steels b connect the lower portions of the fabric body of the corset, and the veye-members 10 and hook members ll provide for an adjustable position and tension in a line with the hook members S 9 and as between the part of the fabric body to which they are connected, the prolongations of the inclined strap members, the elastic members z' and the skirt extensions g h of the corset to produce the-aforesaid all around tension over the thighs. My invention is not however limited by the employment of the eye-members 10 and hook members ll, although they are useful for the best results: I have therefore not shown said parts in the drawing at the righthand side of the figure.

I claim as my invention:

l. An apparel corset combining with each stiffened fabric body half, flexible fabric portions below the steels and means for connecting the same together, skirts below the stiffened body halves around the thighs, flexible fabric members depending from the front of the corset body, elastic fabric members secured at upright edges to the lower front corners of the skirts and to the nearer edges of the depending fabric members and means for connecting said depending fabric members to the front of the corset.

2. In an apparel corset, the combination with the stiifened fabric body halves and flexible skirt extensions below the stiened body, of elastic webbing members secured at upright edges to the lower front corners of said skirt extensions, and flexible tapering fabric members depending from the front of the corset body and at their lower narrower ends secured to the free ends of said elastic webbing members, and devices for producing a downward tension on said parts.

3. In an apparel corset, the combination with the fabric body halves, skirt extensions from the lower edges thereof and inclined tapering straps at the front, of prolongations of said inclined tapering straps and.

means for connecting said prolongations adjustably to the lower front portions of the corset below the steels, and elastic webbing members interposed between the skirt extensions of the corset and the prolongations of the said inclined tapering straps and at their ends secured to said parts and adapted for applying tension -in use over the thighs of the wearer, and devices for producing a downward tension on both the extensions and prolongations.

4. An apparel corset combining with each stiffened fabric body half, flexible fabric portions below the steels and means for connecting the same together, skirts below the stiffened body halves around the thighs, flexible fabric members depending from the front of the corset body, elastic fabric members secured at upright edges to the lower front corners of the skirts and to the nearer edges of the depending fabric members and means for connecting said depending fabric members to the front of the corset at the steels and other means for connecting the l same to the flexible parts below the steels in the horizontal line of tension of the elastic fabric members.
