Application October 24, 1947, Serial No. 781,955
2 Claims.
This invention is an improvement in corsets, girdles and the like, to be worn about the waist beneath the owner's outer garments.
An object of the invention is to provide a corset of superior design, capable of fitting the wearer snugly, but adapted to be worn with ease and comfort, and present to much better advantage the lines of the wearers figure.
Another object of the invention is to provide an article of this kind which is shaped in front so that it will sufliciently engage and contain the abdomen, reducing the appearance of stoutness without causing inconvenience to the wearer standing or sitting; and made somewhat longer in back to embrace the buttocks and hips and thus confine the bulging parts adjacent the lower end of the trunk of the body within the desired limits.
Other objects and advantages are made plain in the following description and the novel features are defined in the appended claims. the embodiment disclosed herein is only the preferred form of the invention; and I may vary the details of structure in matters of size, shape and arrangement without deviation from the essention combination wherein the invention resides.
On the drawings,
Figure 1 is a front view of a corset according to this invention.
Figure 2 is a rear view thereof, and
Figure 3 is a side view of the same.
The back I of the corset is of suitable fabric substantially non-elastic, and the front consists of two separate sections 2, united to the adjacent edges of the rear section by pieces or sheets of elastic 3. The opposed edges of the front sections are connected by laces 4 passing through a row of holes 5 in each to join them together. The sections 2 are long enough from top to bottom to cover the abdomen and flatten it to the required extent; but when the corset is in position the front sections will not reach below the hips. Thus when the wearer sits down these sections will not cause discomfort by binding or pressin against the forward parts of the thighs.
The back I of the corset is longer from top to bottom and is flush along its top with the upper edges of the front sections 2 and the elastic sections or inserts 3, but it passes beyond the lower edges of said sections. The wide rear section I also has lateral extensions 6 adjacent its lower front corners to overlap the upper parts of the legs at the hips or below them. These extensions are separated from the front and side sections by a space I. The forward extremities of But these extensions are joined to the front of the corset adjacent the lower rear corners of the front sections 2 by hose supporting bands 8, which are attached to the extensions, pass beyond their lower edges and have at their ends fasteners to engage the hose, as shown at 9. Additional bands 8 are made fast to the lower rear corners of the sections 3, and the adjacent parts of the extension 6, reaching below the latter, and bearing fasteners 9 for the same purpose; and shorter bands 8 with fasteners 9 are secured to the lower edges of the front sections 2, adjacent the laces 4.
When the corset is put on, the back I reaches from the waist down to the rear part of the thighs, but the sections 2 cover the abdomen only without making contact with the legs. The corset stretches as the wearer moves about or sits, because of the presence of the elastic front sections 2. The extensions 6, projecting forward are pulled by the supporters 8, and kept taut and firm so as to press upon and flatten the buttocks and hips. The corset adjusts itself nicely when in place and a marked gain in the appearance of the wearer's figure results. The lower edges of the sections 2, to afford a better fit, are inclined downward towards the laces 4, as indicated in Figure 3 at 10.
The form of the invention herein set forth' thus serves well the purpose and gains all the objects for which the article is produced.
Preferably the bands bridging the space 1 be,- tween the sides 3 and extension 6 are separate from the hose supporting bands 8. The latter have to be of various lengths and for this reason it is advantageous not to have the bands bridging the space in one piece with the bands 8.
Havin described my invention, what I believe to be new is:
l. A corset having a wide rear section of relatively great length, separated front sections flush with the upper edge of the rear section along their upper edges and terminating short of the lower edge of the rear section, an elastic side section of the same length from top to bottom as the front sections and flush therewith along the upper and lower edges thereof, and uniting each front section to the rear section, said rear section having an extension beneath each elastic section, said extensions being flush along their lower edges with the lower edge of the rear section and projecting forward, and having a space between said extensions and the lower edges of the elastic sections, and bands bridging said space and connecting the forward ends of said REFERENCES crr'isn Number The following references are of record in the file of this patent:
