This invention relates to a supporting girdle, and particularly to a construction adapted to support the excess flesh adjacent at the bust but this typeof corset is frequently much more comforta'l'ale in use than the high front type and. I have provided a girdle adapted to be worn partially'bene'ath the front of a low bust, corset and supple menting the same to provide a support for the flesh above the corset to hold in and flatten protruding fat or flesh in the region of the stomach and diaphragm, thus provid ing comfort and a pro-per support 'without affecting the waist line of the garment.

Such a construction is particularly desirable for use by stout persons as it avoids the necessity of wearing a high bust corset while providing the support necessary at the proper point and permitting the use of the more comfortable 'low bust type, especially by women engaged in housework or other occupations which require frequent change of position.

The invention has; for an object to' provide a girdle comprising a substantially ovate pad having securing bands extending downward in opposite directions from the upper portion thereof and adapted to be secured about the waist of the wearer.

it further object of the invention is to provide a stayed pad having free elastic securing bands secured only at the upper portion thereof and extending downward in opposite direct-ions so as to apply an elastic weight of the flesh bearing against the up pressure to the upper portion of the pad which projects above the corset used in connection therewith.

These bands apply a yielding tension to support the er portion of the pad so that the same may he comfortably worn and not pressed unduly against the wearer when in sitting or bending position.

In order to hold this upper portion of the pad in pro er extended position and prevent wrinkling thereof it has been found desirable to provide a spread stay 17 removably mounted at itsopposite ends in ill) pockets 18 secured to the opposite sides of the upper portion of the pad.

In the application of the invention the lower portion of the gridle is inserted with in the bust portion of the corset as shown in Figure 1, with the elastic band connecting the supporting straps substantially at the upper edge thereof. This provides a stayed support extending upward at the front of the corset and yieldingly held in contact with the diaphragm or fleshy portion of the wearer intermediate the waist and chest. The girdle is secured by simply passing the elastic bands to the back thereof and bringing forwa d the tapes for connection together. The girdle thus holds the excess flesh in position so that the bust of the wearer is not pushed upward when in bending or sitting position as the edge of the girdle within the corset slips downward permitting a relative movement of these parts so that the girdle may assume its original position when the person is in stand ing position. I

It has been found particularly desirable to avoid the use of bands or girdles extending about the waist line of the wearer as they are uncomfortable and do not provide support at the desired portion but rather force upward the flesh at all sides of the bust, tending to draw in the waistline at the back. By contrast, the present invention provides for depressing, and, therefore, suppressing the flesh at the central area of the bust.

The invention provides a simple form of girdle adapted for application to corsets already in use without attachment thereto, and may be also used independently of such corsets for effecting a similar support of the excess flesh of the wearer.

The girdle is adapted to be applied as an independent garment from the corset and is so shown in Figures and 6 wherein the pad forming the front of the garment is provided with stays 21, a cross strap 22 and a brace 23 all substantially similar to those before described. At each side of this pad 20 rearward extensions 24 are provided and connected at the back by a suitable lacing 25, thus forming a supporting band about the waist or body of the wearer. In this modified form of the invention, the elastic bands 26 are attached at 27 to the pad as before described and carry at their free ends lower portion of the front with suitable garment supporters as shown at 30 and similar supporters 31 are also dependent.

The specific details of construction have been herein shown and described but the invention is not confined thereto as changes and alterations may be made therein without departing from the spirit thereof as defined by the following claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is l. A girdle comprising a pad having a flexible apex at its central portion and attaching bands secured only at said apex with free ends extending downwardly in opposite directions therefrom in constantly diverging lines to stress said apex downward and inward.

2. A girdle comprising a pad having a flexible apex at its central portion and attaching bands secured only at said apex with free ends extending downwardly in opposite directions therefrom in constantly diverging lines to stress said apex downward and inward, and an elastic connection extending between the free portions of said bands below said apex.

8. A girdle comprisig a stayed pad having an upstanding apex and free elastic securing bands secured only at the apex of the pad and extending downwardly and rearwardly from said apex, an elastic band connecting the free portions of the securing bands, and a non-elastic strap extending transversely of the pad stays and secured intermediate thereof.
