Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 19, 1911.
Application filed April 4, 1911. Serial No. 618,917.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known'that I, JAooB T. LUTz, a citizen of the United States, residin at Randolph, in the county of Brown an State of South Dakota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Trace- Carriers, of which thefollowing is a specification.
This invention relates to trace carriers, and the object thereof is to provide such a device with means whereby the free ends of the trace ma be held up when not in use, and prevented rom coming down and catching in the objects on the ground or interfering with the free movement of the animal.
0 this end, the invention resides in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawingsFigure 1 is a perspective view of the trace carrier. Fig. 2 1s a sectional View upon the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view taken at ri ht angles to Fig. 2.
Li e numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several v1ews.
Referring to the drawings, the carrier is of a skeleton form, havin its longitudinal ends-provided with opemn s 1 which are adapted to receive the bac and cm per straps of the harness. The 10 itu inal edges of the frameare also provi ed with openings 2, the same being adapted to receive the breeching straps of the harness. The skeleton frame is provided with a pair of upwardly curved guard members 3, the same being arranged adjacent the openings 1, and the said guards having their inner faces curved or of an arcuate formation as clearly illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawings. The transverse edges of the central or hollow portion of the frame is provided with a pair of arched fingers 4 and 5. The finger 4 has its upper portion providedwith a depression6 and its lower edge formed with a depending lip 7. The finger 5 has its upper face provided with a recessed pocket 8, the latter adapted to receive the flattened spring member 9. This spring is secured within the pocket in any desired or preferred manner, and the said sprin has its free end upturned as at 10 and is a a ted to be received within the recess 6 of t e finger 4.
From the above description, it will be noted that the cock eyes upon the ends of the trace will be readily inserted between the fingers 4 and 5, the upturned portion 10 of the spring 9 readily admitting the said cock eyes, and the inclined under faces of the fingers 4 and 5 as well as the .lipl'l prevents the accidental removal of t e said cock eyes.
Having thus fully described the said invention, what I claim is A trace carrier comprising a skeleton frame, having strap receiving openings, the said frame bein formed with OPPOSilK v arranged upwar 1y inclined guards ho. ring their inner edges rounded, the frame being further provided with arched fingers arranged centrally and transversely of the guards, one of said fingers being) provided with a recess, the second finger emg pro vided with a pocket a flattened spring se cured within the pocket, said spring having its free end uptu ed and adapted to be received within the eeess of the first named fin er.
. n testimon whereof I ailix in presence 0 two wltnesses.
