Engineers and others in charge of marine engines are required to oil the various bearing surfaces of the same at frequent intervals, and as the engine-room is nearly always dark, even at midday, itbecomes necessary for them to make use of a hand-lamp, which mustbe carried in one hand, while the other. is employed in holding the oiler. v

Secured upon the side of the can A, immediately below the top thereof, and opposite to the nozzle B, are. two vertical sleeves, (1, having inserted therein the lower ends of two angular rods H, upon the latter of which is supported a circular reflector, I, by means of suitable sleeves t attached to the back of said reflector,

As thus constructed, if the can be filled with lubricating oil, and the lamp trimmed and lighted, the'-op erator in passing around his engine-room and oiling his machinery, will have but one hand employed, and can make use of the other to steady himself and afford assistance in passing through or over difl'erent places. The position of the reflector being such as to throw the light forward in aliue with the end of the nozzle,

Another advantage is obtained from the combination of the lamp and oil-can, as the heat caused by the former will, at all times, keep the oil within the latter in a fluidstate and ready for use.

Having thus fully set'forth the nature and. merits of my invention,
