TOALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, TnoMAs'CAnnLoNGToN, of Trenton, in the countyof Mercer, in' the State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oil-Cans; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereoreferericebeing had to the accompanying drawings, and to .the letters of reference marked thereon'. I
i -Figure 1 represents a longitndnalbisecton, showing the inside view o'f a can. y
i Figure 2 represents the. manner in which the nozzle is pressed4 downfor the purpose of filling -the can wanen. l
Figureo represents a perspective giew. l invention consists in providing an oil-can' witha movable nozzle, constructed with a spherical joint at the lower end, sc that the can may lbe readily Afilled by simply depressing the nozzle, and -pourng the oil into thecup. V To enable others skilled 'in the art to. make use of my invention, I will proceed to describe the same.
Similar letters of reference, -where they occur, denote like parts in all the drawings. v
. @Letter A represents the movable nozzle, the `lower 4end oi' which passes through spherical lknob B'.` Letter `C represents a cup, which'may.be attached to the top of the can permanently, -orby means of a screw, at the 4bottbmaoi which the spherical knob closelyr fits, forming a globe-joint.
Letter VD represents a spiral spring, whichmay'or-nay notbe fastened to the bottom 'of the spherical knob B, and the1 lower end of the spring fits 'into the socket a a: This spring constantly keeps the spherical knob B in its ,proper position' in the joint; also serves to forceoutthe bottom of the can, thus forming the spring in the bottom necessary to force the oil from 4the nozzle.
Anoil-can c onstructedin this manner can be easily filled by simply depressing the nozzle, and pouring the oil into cup C, which passais through the globe-joint, as shown in iig. -2. v i
The globe-joint can be made by making `the bottom of the cup convex, or by using the spherical knob, over which`a small piece` of leather is placed. The latter is more preferable fp r convenience of manufacture. By this arrangement, the nozzle maybe moved in any desired'direction, the advantage of which is in oiling those parts of machinery which require the use of one curved or bent. This nozzle is much less liable to vbe -broken or injured by'a'fall or other accident than" those secured to the can in the ordinary nanner.
described.
Having thus fully `described :my invention, what I claim as new, and desirev to secure by Letters Patet,'is
The oil-cup, with an adjustable nozzle, having a spiral spring beneath it, all snbstant'iallyas shown and THOMAS CARR LoNGToN Witnesses Levi Ummm,l RANDOLPH JAY.
