UNITED STATES PATENT FFICE GEORGE F. DUTTON7 OF FARMINGTON FALLS, MAINE, ASSIGNOR TO ELIZA O. DUTTON, 'OF SAME PLAGE.
IMPROVEMENT IN OILERS.
Speciication forming part of Letters Patent No. 165,987, dated July 27, 1875 application led April 17, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that l, GEORGE F. DUTToN, of ,Farmington Falls, inl the county of Franklin and State of Maine, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Oilers, of which the following is a specification:
This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in oil calls or vessels for oiling machinery, `and for all the uses to which it is adapted; and it consists of an oiler having a chamber above the reservoir, in which is a glass tube which screws into the opening at the top ot' the reservoir, and which forms a tightlypacked joint at the top of the chamber, which chamber is rigidly attached to the discharge-nozzle, and is screwed onto the collar oi' the reservoir.
The invention is illustrated by the annexed sectional draw in g.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding` parts.
A is the reservoir for oil. charge nozzle. O is the glass tube. a is the packing at the top end of the tube. b represents the chamber. o is the collar oi' the oilreservoir. The reservoir of this oiler does B is the disnot diii'er materially from others in use.
To the base of the discharge-nozzle is at tacbed the chamber b', which chamber screws onto the collar o of the reservoir, as seen in the drawing.
The glass tube (l screws tightly into the inside ot the collar7 or may be cemented therein, so as to make a tight and permanent joint. This glass tube extends upward within the chamber b, and a tight joint is made by means of packing a with the top of the chamber. When the nozzle and chamber are unscrewed and removed the glass tube is lett standing and the packing (t, remains in its place.
The reservoir is filled by introducing the oil at the top end of the glass tube, and it may be readily seen when the reservoir is full, as the glass is made white and transparent.
The base end of the discharge-nozzle ex- -tends down through the upper end of the chamber and enters the glass tube, so that a groove is left, as seen in the drawing, for retaining` the packing in place.
Having thus described my invention, Iclailn as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The combination of the tube O with the reservoir A and dischargenozzle B, having the enlarged or chambered portion b', substantially as shown and described.
2. The combination ofthe packing a' and collar o with the funnel-shaped glass-tube (l, the reservoir A and projecting lower end nozzle B, as shown and described for the purpose specified. j
GEORGE F. DUTTON.
