Letters Patent N o. 112,326, (lated. March 7, 1871.
IMPROVEMENT IN M'ACKERELf-LIN E HOLDERS.
The Schedule' referred to in these Letters Patent and parl: of the same.
To all whom it may conce/rn vBe it known that I, EBENEZER L. DECKER, of
xthe town of Southport, in the county off-Lincoln, 'in
the State of Maine, haveinvented a new and useful Mackerel-Line Holder; and I doherehy declare the following `to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reterencebei'ng had to' the aceoinpanying`-.
drawing, in vwliioh- .t
Figure 1 is a top plan, and Figure 2 is a sectionlongitudinally. a. is the strip or cleat, which is to be attached t the lrail by any` convenient means. v
b is a niet-al cleat, attached` to the strip a a by the screws d d. Its shape is shown inY section in fig. 2.
' ff are caps of metal, theupper sidesof them being. convex.` v l A Each metal cap is inclosedin an annulus of metal,
which allows it to move freely in` a 'vertical direction,V
and is so placed as'to be under the lowest point,` g,`of the outer end of the cleat.
Under 4the caps f arejplalced the springs e, which may be of India rubber, or a spring coil, or otherwise.
By means of these springs the caps are made to press continually against the points g g o f/the cleat.
These strips ww are to be attached to the rails-of' ishing vessels, and the device above described is deisigned to hold the lines of the fisherman.
The line is slipped under the cleat b and over the Vcap c, and is then held in the space o, formed by the cleat and cap, together with the strip a. It is thus kept --from being blown about by the wind, or otherwise .disarranged while the fisherman is engaged with other lines.
This holder is not rendered useless, nor does it require anyadj ustinent by the wearing away of the strip a a by the action of the lines.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-"- p The combination of the strip a, cleat g, cap e, annnlus f, and spring e, substantially as herein' described and for the purposes herein set forth.
E. L. DECKER.
