Description

` SAMUEL GQ DARE.. Improvement i'n Feeders forl Wa'x-Tape'rsx Patented 111115116, 1871.
; area site 'SAMUEL Garnalen-or New YORK, N. Y.
Letters Patent No. 114,772, dated May 16;v 1871.
IMPROVEMENT In FEEnERs FOR wAx 'rAPl-fns.
The Schedule referred to in these Lettini Patent and making part of the same.
To all twhom 'it may concern Be it known thatI, SAMUEL. G; DARE, of the city,
county, and State of New York, have invented a newv and improved Feeder for Wax Tapers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact de scription thereof, reference being had to theaccompanying drawing forming a part of this specification.
This invention consists in feed-wheels of novel construction arranged 'wit iin the head of a box or recep! tacle which contains the coil oftaper, whereby the taper is fed inra very positive manner, without snstaining any injury from the wheels.
It also consists in the combination, with such wheels interposed between them and the coil of taper,.of a false head with a fnnnel-lile opening for the'direction of the taper to the wheels.
I n the accompanying drawing.-
Figu're l is a central longitudinal section of a taper ang cup, having my improved feed-wheels applied; an
Figure 2 is a transverse section through the head of the same.
Similar letters of'reference indicate corresponding vparts in both gures.
A is a cylindrical box, of a size to receive an ordinary coiled taper, O, and having a daring base, and
p rolvided with a handle, e, by which it may be carrie This box is provided with aremovable head or cap, B, through the .top or mouth a of which the end of the' taper O projects. E is a 'plate iitted'in'to the lower part of the head or ad B, and 'constituting what may be termed a false This has formed in it a central hole, the edges of whichare turnedv upward to form a rounded funnel- 4shaped throat, vthrongh which the end of the taper passes, and is thereby guided to the feed-wheels G I,
which are arranged within the head or cap B.
These feed-wheels are madeV of circular plates oiV metal -slit radially at regular intervals from their circumferences, and having alternate portions between the slits bent in reverse directions so as to form obtuse angles with the bodies or central portions oi' the plates, each tooth being opposite the space between two of those which are bent reversely thereto.
It will be seen that each oi' the wheels thus constructed has two series of teeth, one on each side oi' a'- central plane.
The two wheels are arranged on parallel lshafts G I', which are supported in bearings in the head B in such positions relatively to each other that the tips of their teeth gear with each other, and the base portions of the teeth gripe the taper C securely between" them, as shown in iig. 2, so that they will feed it upward as the wheels are made to rotate in a proper direction.
The shaft of one oi' the feed-wheels is provided withthumb-wheel J, by means ot'l which the wheels may be turned to raise or lower the taper.
The funnel-month of 'the false head conducts the v taper from the coil to thefeed-wheels in such manner as to prevent it from fouling or getting across the,
wheels.
What I claim 'as my, invention, and desire to secure Witnesses linnn; HAYNns, R. E. RAnnAU.
