Abstract
Description
The ponds are grouped according to the principle of territoriality and populated gradually with an interval of one year, and then in turn after three years they are fished and repopulated with crayfish larvae and yearlings of carp and other fish.
і.The process of forming a stable population adapted to specific conditions is long, and work on its creation should be started in advance. The need for planting material is determined by the size of the so-called useful (for crayfish) area, which consists of areas of the reservoir with a depth of no more than 2-3 m, suitable for crayfish settlements, as well as nearby fodder pastures - thickets of rdesta, water lilies, elodeia. Such biotopes must be identified and plotted on the map-diagram of the water body, and their area determined. You can create artificial shelters in the reservoir by placing, for example, fragments of empty ceramic pipes of small diameter, etc.
Breeding is carried out at the end of August - the beginning of autumn, when the larvae become this year and reach a length of 3-bsm. Planting plots should be carried out in stages, at the rate of 4 this year per 1 m2, repeating planting for the next year (a total of 8 this year per year, or 8,000 exes/ha of usable area).
Crayfish feeding begins in April. It is continued until October, taking breaks during mass molting and increasing feeding after the molting period. In the spring, they start feeding by giving feed in the amount of 0.595 of the weight of the cultivated crayfish. This norm is gradually increased to 2.5-395. The total need of crayfish for food (including the natural fodder base) is about 495. Feed is given in the evening hours, once every 3-4 days, placing it in feeders, which have the form of wooden trays with sides (40x4Osm), in the bottom of which are hammered nails point up, so that the crayfish do not stretch the feed along the bottom of the reservoir. The next day, the feeders are picked up and the degree of feed consumption is determined. The rate is increased or decreased depending on whether food was eaten the day before. Uneaten remains are removed.
As fodder, crushed soft Boyen waste, crushed garbage fish, meat of frogs, tadpoles, molluscs, etc. are used. All feed of animal origin must be fresh. Boiled peas, potatoes, leftover vegetables and bread are also used.
There are a number of specialized compound feeds of foreign production (for example, Dutch ones) developed for crayfish of various ages and their breeders, and although they are relatively expensive, it is possible to calculate the economic effect of their use in each specific case, especially in case of intensive cultivation of crayfish and raising young. Among the fish feed that can also be used, trout and carp feed have proven to be the best.
For the reproduction of crayfish, reservoirs with flowing clean water (lakes, draining ponds, rivers, bays, canals, as well as permanent ponds and spring-fed lakes), sources of groundwater of appropriate quality and land areas for the construction of small ponds are necessary. In Ukraine, there are enough natural reservoirs that are suitable for management, and there are still natural populations of river crayfish from which broodstock can be caught for artificial breeding. The requirements for reservoirs where crayfish cultivation is planned are primarily dictated by the choice of one or another type of crayfish as an object of breeding. On the other hand, this choice should be based on information about the nature of a specific reservoir. A beautiful river reservoir is characterized by clear, oxygen-rich water, a stable temperature regime in the summer, and the presence of shelters. It should have depressions, but non-stagnant areas where crayfish hide and hibernate, and shallow warming zones with forage pastures: thickets of soft aquatic vegetation. Small and shallow reservoirs must necessarily be flowing with spring water supply, which ensures the stability of their temperature and hydrochemical regimes. Crayfish can tolerate long-term oxygen deficiency, however, for the normal flow of metabolic processes, the oxygen content in pond water should be within 5-10 mgObg/l. Other biotechnological indicators of commercial crayfish cultivation in polyculture are given in the table.

The cultivation of crayfish in polyculture is an important source of increasing the productivity of inland water bodies and especially ponds, as crayfish use the free feed resources of water bodies where fish are grown.
Fish farms can get additional income by organizing breeding in polyculture of such valuable hydrobionts as crayfish.
