Description

Methods are known for the preparation of aluminum products for electroplating by treating them in acidified solutions of heavy metal salts, such as ferric chloride, nickel chloride, and copper chloride. However, these methods do not give qualitative results, since in the process of aluminum etching in solutions, the film of the selected metal formed on it weakly adheres to the base metal.

There is also known a method of treating aluminum in a solution of sodium zincate, followed by nickel plating in a solution containing citric acid. But to ensure a strong adhesion, subsequent heat treatment is necessary.

The proposed method allows a strong adhesion of the coating to aluminum. To do this, products of soft aluminum, degreased and pickled in a solution of caustic soda, are treated in a solution containing 1 liter of phosphoric acid (sp. In. 1.4) and 40 l of nickel chloride at a temperature of 50-60 °. The processing time is 0.5-2 minutes before the natural film is removed.

After washing in running water, the treated aluminum surface has a light gray color. Prepared as described in the details are then subjected to galvanic metal coating using known methods.
