Abstract
A steering axle particularly for a road vehicle (which may or may not possess off-road driving capability) is fitted with pairs of wheels 5, the wheels in each pair being rotatably moveable relative to one another to allow free rolling of the wheels during steering manoeuvres. Such steering axles are particularly suitable for use on the trailing car of an articulated bus, where the augmented load bearing capacity of the wheel pairs enables the engine of the bus to be arranged in the rear of the trailing car without necessarily reducing the load it can carry. The wheels 5 are steerable about a vertical axis 8. The inboard wheel is driven through a shaft 4. The two wheels 5 may be rotationally locked relative to each other by stop means responsive to a signal from an antiskid braking system. <IMAGE>
