Abstract
Raw material including fresh fish or other marine animals is converted to a meal by first disintegrating the material and then heating to 60-85 deg.C for 2 mins in a scraped heat exchanger. The deg. of subdivision during disintegration is adjusted in response to the deg. of localisation of fat in the raw material. The heated fish is sieved to produce a fibre phase which is pressed and dried below 65 deg.C The liquid phase is subjected to centrifugal sepn. to form an oil fraction and a stick water fraction.
