Abstract

In order to form an oxide layer, which has a colour ranging from yellow to black, on the degreased objects, said objects are subjected to an anodic oxidation treatment by means of direct current, alternating current or direct current superimposed with alternating current. The fresh electrolyte employed for the electrolysis in the immersion process contains 5-500 g/l of sulphofumaric acid and additionally up to 30 g/l of an inorganic acid or up to 50 g/l of another organic acid or a metal salt of sulphuric acid. The process is simple and can be carried out at BOD and COD values lower than any obtained so far, in a short treatment time and employing a low current density. Excellent colour absorption is achieved at a high electrolytic efficiency. The process is very economical and is particularly suitable for mass production.
