Abstract

PURPOSE: To well color anodic oxidation film to a blue color by subjecting the anodic oxidation film of an aluminum base material to secondary electrolyis treatment in an aqueous molybdate solution.
CONSTITUTION: Al or Al alloy is subjected to anodic oxidation electrolysis treatment to be formed with an anodic oxidation film of a desired thickness. Next, this is subjected to secondary electrolysis treatment in an aqueous acidic solution of molybdate [(NH4)2MoO4, Na2MoO4, etc.]. This electrolysis may be any of AC, DC and AC-DC superposition but in the case of DC, the anode film is made cathode. Electrolysis conditions are made about 0.01 to 1A/dm2 of current density in the case of, e.g., constant current electrolysis and about 2 to 30V in constant voltage electrolysis. Concentrations of the molybdate in the electrolyte are about 1 to 100g/l as Mo and addition of small amounts of one or two or more kinds of boric acid, borate and/or metal salts such as of iron, tin, zinc, etc. besides this is desirable. Thus, the molybdic acid is reduced and colored in the fine pores of alumite, whereby coloring is effected.
