Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform an electrolytic multi-coloration for aluminum or aluminum alloy anode oxide film, which is excellent in color tone and durability, by the procedure in which an anodic oxide film is formed on the surface of an aluminum base, then the barrier layer of the oxide film is improved by a low-current density electrolysis, and a polar negative DC voltage is applied in a metal salt electrolyte.
CONSTITUTION: The first electrolysis is performed by application of a 10W50V DC or pulse voltage at a current density of 1W6A/dm2 in an electrolytic bath using an aluminum or aluminum alloy as the one electrode, an aluminum, carbon, or stainless steel as the other electrode, and an electrolyte of an aqueous solution of a mineral acid, an organic acid, or a mixture of these, or an alkali aqueous solution. Then, the second electrolysis is performed by application of a DC or pulse voltage at a current density of 0.01W0.3A/dm2 or of a 0.1W1.2A/dm2 alternate current in a mineral acid, an organic acid, or a mixture of these. Then, the third electrolysis is performed by application of a polar negative DC voltage at a current density of 0.1W0.6A/dm2 in an electrolyte containing a metal salt, a pH buffer, and a complex former in order to obtain a multi-colored film.
