Abstract

PURPOSE: To form an even colored layer on Al surfaces through anodic oxidation treatment by adding the specific organic acids to an aqueous solution containing sulfosalicylic acid and sulfuric acid and using this as electrolyte for anodic oxidation coloring.
CONSTITUTION: A colored oxide film is formed on the surfaces of parts of Al or Al alloys by an anodic oxidation method. As the electrolyte, less than 6wt% of organic acids are added to the aqueous solution dissolving sulfosalicylic acid; 1 to 10wt% and sulfuric acid; 0.04 to 0.85% (but also contains the sulfuric acid in sulfosalicylic acid). As the organic acids, organic di- or tri-carboxylic acids of 3 to 6 in carbon number such as malonic acids, succinic acids, maleic acids, etc.; or organic hydroxycarboxlic acids of 2 to 6 in carbon number such as glycolic acids, lactic acids, tartaric acids, etc. are used. With the Al material as anode, electrolysis is accomplished at the mean current density of 1.5A/dm2 or under, whereby the oxide film of a beautiful yellowish brown color is evenly formed.
