Abstract

PURPOSE: To form a weather-resistant and uniform greyish black film by subjecting an Al alloy containing a majority of Fe in the form of Al6Fe in a specific amount to an anodic oxidation treatment in an aqueous colution containing an organic sulfonic acid and a small amount of sulfunic acid.
CONSTITUTION: Al is added 0.5 to 2.2% Fe ti precipitate the majority of Fe in the form of an intermetallic compound, Al6Fe, and then the Al alloy is deoiled, washed, and then subjected to an anodic oxidation treatment in an electrolyte by the usual method. The electrolyte used is prepared by adding 0.5 to 2.0% sulfuonic acid to a 5 to 20% organic sulfonic acid aqueous solution of sulfosalcylic acid, sulfophthalic acid, or cresol sulfonic acid. The conditions of anodic oxidation treatment include a liquid temperature of approx. 20°C and an anodic current density of 1.0 to 3.0A/dm2. Thus, colored anodically oxidized film which is of an uniform greyish black color and also excellent in weather resistance can be obtained.
