1361713 Synthetic Wollstonite; treating slag DYCKERHOFF ZEMENTWERKE AG 6 April 1972 [7 April 1971] 15999/72 Headings C1A and C1K The slag melt obtained from the electrothermal production of phosphorus from crude phosphate is quenched in water and then burnt in an oxidizing atmosphere at temperature of at least 1000‹ C. to produce Wollastonite (CaSiO 3 ). Modifying substances may be added to the slag prior to burning, these may be 1 to 15% Al 2 O 3 and/or 2 to 30% SiO 2 and/or 0À5 to 10% alkali metal oxide (per cent by weight calculated as the weight of oxide and based on the weight of slag), e.g. kaolin, silica, feldspar (Exs. 1-4). Colouring agents, e.g. Cr 2 O 3 , COO (Exs. 5-6), may also be added. The slag may be purified prior to burning by gravity separation using tetrabromoethane, by settling, by tabling, or by settling and electroseparation, to remove ferrophosphorus (see Exs. 7-10). The slag may be compacted hot or cold prior to burning and the burning process may be incorporated into a ceramic baking process.
