Abstract
1,129,432. Emptying tanks. J. C. CARTER CO. 14 Dec., 1966 [10 May, 1966], No. 56062/66. Heading B8T. [Also in Divisions F1 and H2] An apparatus for pumping pressurized cryogenic fluids (see Division F1) e.g. liquefied natural gas, methane, butane, propane, ammonia, ethylene and the like, from a container 10 comprises a vertical casing 12 having an outlet 21 and a foot valve 25, and a suspended motor-pump unit 23 arranged to open the foot valve when at the bottom of the casing and thereafter to pump liquid through the casing to the outlet. The pump is suspended from a cover 27 by a cable, as of stainless steel, or by a rigid tube. The container may be a hole in the ground with its walls made impervious by freezing, or a storage tank above or below ground, e.g. in tank cars, tanker ships and the like.
