Abstract
1309169 Detecting leaks in pipes INSTITUT FRANCAIS DU PETROLE DES CARBURANTS ET LUBRIFIANTS and SOC ANON POUR TOUS APPAREILLAGES MECHANIQUES 15 Oct 1970 [16 Oct 1969] 49075/70 Heading G1H G1S [Also in Division F1] An installation for storing and distributing a liquid includes a storage tank 3, under pressure of a fluid for distributing the liquid, each delivery pipe 5 being surrounded by at least one fluid tight casing 15 containing a sensing liquid which is sealed from the storage tank and connected to a container for the sensing liquid, the container having a liquid level sensing means 18, a means for setting an upper limit to the level 21, means 22, co-operating with the upper limit setting means for interrupting the application of pressure to the storage tank, the interrupting means being actuated when leakage of the stored liquid into the space between the delivery pipe and the surrounding casing causes the sensing liquid to reach the upper level in its container. Leakage of liquid from casing 15 causes the level in container 16 to drop and ultimately set off an alarm by float 18 contacting switch 25. Pressure around the flexible walled storage tank is provided by water pressure from water in a tower 7 whose level is maintained by level sensing device 10. Level sensing device 13 detects excessively high water levels in the tower and shuts off the pump supplying hydrocarbon to the storage tank. (For figure see next page)
