Den foreliggende oppfinnelsen tilveiebrakte en prosess og system for fjemoverføring av telefaks som forsyner en abonnent med redusert kostnads telefaks-overføring, omfattende: et flertall tilstedeværelsespunkter; et virtuelt privat nett; et ruting- og autoriseringsbehandlingsmiddel; og et fakturering- og økonomibehandlingsmiddel; idet et flertall sendende telefaks-maskiner og et flertall mottagende telefaks-maskiner kan tilkobles et hvilket som helst av de i et flertall av tilstedeværelsespunkter og idet brukeren overfører en telefaks med et signaleringsmiddel via den sendende telefaks- maskinen til tilstedeværelsespunktet; tilstedeværelsespunktet tolker data i signaleringsmidlet og videresender data til ruting- og autoriseringsbehandlingsmidlet; ruting- og autoriseringsdatabasen autoriserer og ruter telefaksn og videresender faktureringsdata til fakturerings- og økonomibehandlingsmidlet og idet etter mottak av ruting og autorisering, ruter tilstedeværelsespunktet telefaksen via det virtuelle private nett til bestemmelsesstedets telefaks-maskin.
