Description
Foreliggende oppfinnelse vedrører en skumfIotasjonsfrem-gangsmåte hvor silikater separeres fra en jernmalm i nærvær av en samler inneholdende en kvaternær ammoniumforbindelse som har to alifatiske grupper og/eller acylgrupper inneholdende 6-14 karbonatomer, samt anvendelse av samleren.
Denne samler har en høy selektivitet for å konsentrere silikater i skumproduktet, mens et høyt utbytte av jernmineraler beholdes i bunnkonsentratet eller konsentratene.
Kvaternære ammoniumforbindelser benyttes ofte som samlere i skumfIotasjonsprosesser. Således er det beskrevet i WO 94/26419 å underkaste, et kalsittmineral for en skumflota-sjonsprosess i nærvær av en blanding inneholdende en kvaternær forbindelse og et alkylenoksid addukt av et alkyl-amin, som en samlerkomponent. WO 97/26995 beskriver anvendelsen av "esterquats" som fIotasjonsmidler for ikke-sulfidiske mineraler. De kvaternære ammoniumforbindelser inneholder acylgrupper med 6-24 karbonatomer. I arbeidseksemp-lene anvendes "esterquats" av ikke-definert natur, dikoko-salkyldimetylammoniumklorid eller trimetyltalgammoniumklorid som samlere for silikatrike kalsittmalmer med for-høyet magnesiuminnhold. US 3 960 715 vedrører en skumflota-sjonsprosess for separering av kiselholdige gråbergsbe-standdeler fra en jernmalm utført i nærvær av en kationisk samler inklusive kvaternære aminer, slik som dodecyltrim-etylammoniumklorid.
Artikkelen "Cationic Flotation of Silica From Magnetic Iron-Ore Concentrates: H.C. Hedberg, MAOCS, U7 (1970: 5, 177-179), sammenligner effekten av forskjellige kationiske samlere. Testene viser at de kvaternære ammoniumforbindelser, trimetylkokosammoniumklorid, trimetyllaurylammoni-umklorid og trimetyltalgammoniumklorid ikke var så effek-tive som kokos primært aminacetat anvendt som en standard.
US Patent 4 995 998 bringer for dagen anvendelsen av fett-alkoholpolyglykoletere terminalt blokkert av hydrofobe ra-dikaler som kosamlere sammen med kationiske eller amfoly-tiske surfaktanter i fIotasjonen av ikke-sulfidiske malmer. I eksempel 4 underkastes ren kvartssand for en skumflota-sjonsprosess i nærvær av et lauryltrimetylammoniumklorid.
Selv om disse fIotasjonsprosesser har positive effekter, er det en klar tendens til at de anrikede jernmineraler enten inneholder et for høyt silikatnivå (ofte vesentlig over 1 vekt%) eller et for lavt jernutbytte. Derfor er hovedfor-målet for den foreliggende oppfinnelse å utvikle en mer se-lektiv skumfIotasjonsprosess som resulterer i et høyt jernutbytte ved et lavt silikatinnhold. Et annet mål for oppfinnelsen er å oppnå den forbedrede fIotasjon ved en lav dosering av samleren.
I henhold til den foreliggende oppfinnelse har det blitt funnet at disse mål kan oppnås ved en fremgangsmåte ved anriking av et jernmineral fra en silikatrik jernmalm ved å utføre en omvendt skumfIotasjon av en vandig suspensjon av jernmalmen ved en pH på 7-11 i nærvær av en samler inneholdende en kvaternær ammoniumforbindelse og et nedtrykkingsmiddel for jernmineralet, særpreget ved at samleren er en kvaternær ammoniumforbindelse med formelen
hvor gruppene Ri uavhengig av hverandre er hydrokarbongrup-per, fortrinnsvis alifatiske grupper inneholdende 6-14 karbonatomer og/eller gruppen R2-(OR7)m - ORs-, hvor gruppene R2 uavhengig av hverandre er acylgrupper inneholdende 6-14 karbonatomer, gruppene R7 uavhengig av hverandre er alkylengrupper inneholdende 2-4 karbonatomer, gruppene Re uavhengig av hverandre er alkylengrupper inneholdende 2-3 karbonatomer og m er et tall fra 0-5, R3 og R4 er uavhengige alkylgrupper inneholdende 1-4 karbonatomer eller grupper (RsO)p, hvor
gruppene R5 uavhengig av hverandre er alkylengrupper med 2-4 karbonatomer og p er et tall fra 1-4, X er en anionisk gruppe, og z er ladningen til anionet X, mengden av de kvater-
nære ammoniumforbindelser er 10-500 milligram per kg jernmalm.
Fortrinnsvis er gruppene Ri rette alifatiske grupper inneholdende 6-10 karbonatomer eller forgrenede alifatiske grupper inneholdende 8-13 karbonatomer og gruppene R2 er rette acylgrupper inneholdende 6-10 karbonatomer eller forgrenede acylgrupper inneholdende 8-13 karbonatomer.
Disse kvaternære ammoniumforbindelser som har to forholds-vis små alifatiske grupper og/eller acylgrupper utviser selv ved lave doseringer en uventet høy selektivitet for silikater og etterlater et jerninnholdende konsentrat med høy renhet og et svært lavt innhold av silikater. De kvaternære ammoniumforbindelser tilsettes fortrinnsvis i en mengde på 15-200 milligram per kg jernmalm, og mest fore-trukket i en mengde på 15-100 milligram per kg jernmalm.
Fordi skumproduktet fra den grovere fIotasjon kan inneholde betydelige mengder jernmineraler, kan skumproduktet underkastes ett eller flere, for eksempel fra 1 til 5, ytterligere skumfIotasjonstrinn (rensetrinn) etter tilsetting av vann og om ønsket, en komplementær tilsetting av den kvaternære ammoniumforbindelse, det nedtrykkende middel og/eller andre fIotasjonskjemikalier. Normalt er det ikke nødvendig å gjøre noen supplerende tilsetting med samleren. Bunnkonsentratet fra den grovere fIotasjon og bunnkonsentratene fra de etterfølgende skumfIotasjonstrinn av skumproduktene kombineres passende til et sluttkonsentrat med høyt jernutbytte og et svært lavt innhold av silikater.
Foretrukne kvaternære ammoniumforbindelser er de, hvor gruppene R5, R7 og Rs er -C2H4- gruppen og minst én av gruppene R3 og R4 er en alkylgruppe, fortrinnsvis metylgruppe. Disse forbindelser er lette å fremstille og har utmerkede egenskaper. Gruppene Ri er fortrinnsvis n-oktyl, n-dekyl, 2-propylheptyl og/eller metylsubstituerte alkylgrupper med 9-13 karbonatomer. Gruppene R2 er fortrinnsvis 2-etylheksanoyl, n-oktanoyl, 2-propylheptanoyl og metylsubstituerte acylgrupper inneholdende 9-13 karbonatomer. Den anioniske gruppe X er passende et halogenid, slik som klorid; et al-kylsulfat, slik som metylsulfat; hydrogensulfat; eller et karboksylat slik som acetat. De kvaternære ammoniumforbindelser anvendt i fIotasjonsprosessen er velkjente og det eksisterer en omfattende litteratur som beskriver frem-gangsmåtene ved deres fremstilling.
I fIotasjonsprosessen i henhold til oppfinnelsen kan jernmalmen være malt sammen med vann til den ønskede partikkel-størrelse. Som en regel har minst 50 vekt% av den malte malm en partikkelstørrelse mellom 5 og 200 nm. Den malte malm suspenderes deretter i vann og finmaterialet avkalkes på konvensjonell måte, for eksempel ved sikting, bunnfel-ling eller sentrifugering. Deretter fremstilles en vandig vannslurry (masse) fra den avkalkede malm og et nedtrykkingsmiddel for jernmalmen tilsettes normalt. Nedtrykkingsmidlet kan være et hydrofilt polysakkarid, for eksempel stivelse, slik som maisstivelse aktivert ved behandling med alkali og dekstrin. Andre eksempler på passende hydrofile polysakkarider er cellulosederivater, slik som karboksyme-tylcellulose, sulfometylcellulose, metylcellulose, hydrok-syetylcellulose og etylhydroksyetylcellulose; hydrofile gummier, slik som gummi arabicum, karayagummi, tragantgummi og ghattigummi; alginater; og stivelsesderivater, slik som karboksymetylstivelse og fosfatstivelse. Nedtrykkingsmidlet tilsettes normalt i en mengde på ca. 10 til ca. 1000 g per tonn malm. Ved siden av tilsettes vanligvis alkali i en mengde tilstrekkelig for å oppnå en pH på 7-11, fortrinnsvis 9-11. Etter kondisjonering av massen, kan de kvaternære ammoniumforbindelser tilsettes og blandingen kondisjoneres videre i en stund før skumfIotasjonen utføres. Om ønsket kan skumregulerende midler tilsettes ved en passende anled-ning før skumfIotasjonen. Eksempler på egnede skumregulerende additiver er metylisobutylkarbinol og alkoholer med 6-12 karbonatomer som eventuelt er alkoksylert med etylen-oksid og/eller propylenoksid.
Eksemplene under illustrerer ytterligere den foreliggende oppfinnelse.
Eksempel 1
En hematittmalm inneholdende ca. 13,1 vekt% Si02 og ca. 85,9 vekt% Fe203 ble malt til en slik partikkelstørrelse at 45,4 vekt% passerte en sikt med en maskeåpning på 32 nm. Deretter ble malmen suspendert i vann og avkalket med en hydrosyklon, og en vandig masse av den avkalkede malm ble fremstilt med et tørrstoffinnhold på 60%. Etter tilsetting av 500 mg stivelse behandlet med alkali per kg malm, ble massen kondisjonert i 5 minutter. Malmkonsentrasjonen i massen ble deretter redusert ved tilsetting av vann til 40%, massens pH-verdi ble justert til 10,5 og en samler ble tilsatt i mengdene vist i tabell 2. Hele blandingen ble deretter kondisjonert i 60 sekunder etterfulgt av grovere fIotasjon, hvorved et silikatrikt skumprodukt og et jern-rikt bunnkonsentrat ble erholdt. Skumproduktet ble vasket ved hjelp av et andre fIotasjonstrinn (rensetrinn) uten noen tilsettinger av samlere eller andre additiver og bunnkonsentratet fra vasketrinnet ble tilsatt til bunnkonsentratet fra den grovere fIotasjon. Denne vaskeprosess ble gjentatt en eller tre ganger og bunnkonsentratet fra den grovere fIotasjon og bunnkonsentratene fra de forskjellige vasketrinn ble kombinert. Bunnkonsentratet fra den grovere fIotasjon og de forskjellige kombinerte bunnkonsentrater ble analysert med hensyn til jernutbyttet (Fe203) og sili-katinnholdet (Si02) . Resultatene er vist i tabell 2 under. Fra resultatene er det åpenbart at samlerne i henhold til oppfinnelsen har en sterk affinitet og høy selektivitet for silikater. Ved gjentatt vasking av skumproduktet er det og-så mulig å erholde en kombinasjon av bunnkonsentratene med et utmerket utbytte av Fe203 og et svært lavt innhold av SiC>2 sammenlignet med tidligere kjent teknikk. Dessuten er mengdene av samlerne som er nødvendig for å utføre skum-fIotasjonsprosessen overraskende lave.
Eksempel 2
En hematittmalm inneholdende 24,1 vekt% Si02 og ca. 73,6 vekt% Fe203 ble malt til en slik partikkelstørrelse at 27,2 vekt% passerte en sikt med en maskeåpning på 32 um. En vandig suspensjon av det malte materialet ble deretter prepa-rert på samme måte som i eksempel 1. Jernmalmsuspensjonene ble underkastet grovere flotasjoner, som ble etterfulgt av ett eller flere vasketrinn av skumproduktene. I vaskepro-sessene ble ingen supplerende tilsettinger av flotasjons-kjemikalier gjort. Bunnkonsentratet fra den grovere flota-sjon og i forskjellige kombinerte bunnkonsentrater ble analysert med hensyn til det totale jernutbytte (Fe2C>3) og si-likatinnholdet (Si02) . De oppnådde resultater er vist i tabell 4 under.
Flotasjonsresultatene ligner resultatene i eksempel 1. Samlerne i henhold til oppfinnelsen har en sterk affinitet og selektivitet for silikater allerede ved en lav dosering, spesielt samlerne med korte kjedealifatiske eller acylgrupper .
Claims (9)
1. Fremgangsmåte ved anriking av et jernmineral fra en silikatrik jernmalm ved å utføre en omvendt skumfIotasjon av en vandig suspensjon av jernmalmen ved en pH på 7-11 i nærvær av en samler inneholdende en kvaternær ammoniumforbindelse og et nedtrykkingsmiddel for jernmineralet, karakterisert ved at samleren er en kvaternær ammoniumforbindelse med formelen
hvor gruppene Ri uavhengig av hverandre er hydrokarbongrup-per, fortrinnsvis alifatiske grupper inneholdende 6-14 karbonatomer og/eller gruppen R2-(OR7)m - 0R8-, hvor gruppene R2 uavhengig av hverandre er acylgrupper inneholdende 6-14 karbonatomer, gruppene R7 uavhengig av hverandre er alkylengrupper inneholdende 2-4 karbonatomer, gruppene Rq uavhengig av hverandre er alkylengrupper inneholdende 2-3 karbonatomer og m er et tall fra 0-5, R3 og R4 er uavhengige alkylgrupper inneholdende 1-4 karbonatomer eller grupper (RsO)p, hvor gruppene R5 uavhengig av hverandre er alkylengrupper med 2-4 karbonatomer og p er et tall fra 1-4, X er en anionisk gruppe, og z er ladningen til anionet X, mengden av de kvaternære ammoniumforbindelser er 10-500 milligram per kg jernmalm.
2. Fremgangsmåte ifølge krav 1, karakterisert ved at gruppene Ri uavhengig av hverandre er rette, alifatiske grupper inneholdende 6-10 karbonatomer eller forgrenede alifatiske grupper inneholdende 8-13 karbonatomer eller gruppen R2-(OR7)m - ORs-, hvor R7, R8 og m har betydningen nevnt i krav 1 og gruppene R2 uavhengig av hverandre er rette acylgrupper inneholdende 6-10 karbonatomer eller forgrenede acylgrupper inneholdende 8-13 karbonatomer.
3. Fremgangsmåte ifølge krav 1 eller 2, karakterisert ved at R5, R7 og RB er gruppen -C2H4- og minst én av gruppene R3 og R4 er en alkylgruppe.
4. Fremgangsmåte ifølge krav 1, 2 eller 3, karakterisert ved at den kvaternære ammoniumforbindelse er til stede i en mengde på 15-200 milligram per kg jernmalm.
5. Fremgangsmåte ifølge et hvilket som helst av kravene 1-4,
karakterisert ved at gruppene Ri uavhengig av hverandre er n-oktyl, n-decyl, 2-propylheptyl og metylsubstituerte alkylgrupper inneholdende 9-13 karbonatomer.
6. Fremgangsmåte ifølge et hvilket som helst av kravene 1-4,
karakterisert ved at gruppene R2 uavhengig av hverandre er 2-etylheksanoyl, n-oktanoyl, 2-propylheptanoyl og metylsubstituerte acylgrupper inneholdende 9-13 karbonatomer.
7. Fremgangsmåte ifølge et hvilket som helst av kravene 1-6,
karakterisert ved at et hydrofilt polysakkarid tilsettes til den vandige suspensjonen som et nedtrykkingsmiddel for jernmineralet før tilsettingen av den kvaternære ammoniumforbindelse.
8. Fremgangsmåte ifølge krav 7, karakterisert ved at skumproduktet erholdt fra fIotasjonen av den vandige suspensjon av jernmalmen underkastes minst en ytterligere skumfIotasjonsprosess.
9. Anvendelse av en kvaternær ammoniumforbindelse som definert i kravene 1-6 som samler for anriking av et jernmineral fra en silikatrik jernmalm ved en omvendt skumfIo-tas j onsprosess.
