Description
Foreliggende oppfinnelse vedrører klorsyregenererende blanding.
Uttrykket desinfeksjonsmiddel brukes i denne beskrivelse for i store trekk å omfatte ethvert stoff eller enhver blanding som desinfiserer, virker sanitært, deodoriserer, steri-liserer eller dreper mikrober.
Bruken av klorforbindelser i forskjellige typer des-inf eksjonsblandinger er vel kjent. Klorforbindelser som i denne sammenheng er foreslått for bruk, omfatter f.eks. natriumhypokloritt, brukt under første verdenskrig som et desinfeksjonsmiddel, og klorerte fenoler som f.eks. m-klorfenol. Disse forbindelsene har, sammenlignet med ikke-klorerte fenoler, i noen tilfeller økt baktericid virkning og redusert toksisitet. Således har m-klorfenol en fenolkoeffi-sient på 5,8 (S. aureus) til 7,4 (B. typhosus). Andre klorforbindelser med en eller annen form for anvendelse som des-inf eksjonsmiddel, omfatter f.eks. klorgass selv, klordioxyd, kloramin T, kvikksølvklorid, calciumhypokloritt (et standard desinfeksjonsmiddel i svømmebasseng), klorpicrin (et larvicid), kloroform (et desinfeksjonsmiddel i gassform), klordan (et insekticid), sinkklorid (et preserveringsmiddel) og klor-mycetin (et antibiotikum).
Særlig klordioxyd er funnet å være et spesielt effektivt desinfeksjonsmiddel. Denne forbindelse er svært all-sidig og har lenge vært brukt som et blekemiddel som f.eks. ved oxydasjon av det naturlige fargestoff som er til stede i bomull, tremasse og annet celluloseholdig fibermateriale. Således er klordioxyd, selv om det har en oxydasjonsfunksjon, ikke desto mindre ikke-skadelig med hensyn til fibermateri-alet.
Dertil har klordioxyd lenge vært brukt ved behandlingen av vannforsyninger, og en forløper er for tiden tilgjengelig kommersielt i pulverform for bruk i svømmebasseng og i væske-form for rensing og desinfeksjon i hjemmene og i indu-strien. Vanligvis er klordioxyd mye bedre enn klorgass ved fjerning av lukter, smak og ved ødeleggelse og fjerning av alger eller annet organisk materiale. Videre anses klordioxyd som minst like effektivt om ikke bedre enn klorgass som et bakterie-, virus- eller sporedrepende middel. Videre er klordioxyd fordelaktig ved at dets antiseptiske egenskaper ikke er så følsomme overfor pH som klor, dvs. at klordioxyd beholder sin desinfiserende evne i en betydelig større utstrekning og over et større pH-område enn det klorgass gjør.
Til tross for de mangfoldige fordeler som lar seg oppnå ved bruken av klordioxyd til de ovenfor beskrevne og beslekt-ede formål, medfører bruken ikke desto mindre visse vanske-ligheter i praksis. Således er klordioxyd som en konsen-trert gass eksplosiv og giftig, og fraktes følgelig vanligvis ikke i gassform til middels store og små brukere. Det har således blitt vanlig praksis å anvende en klordioxyd-avgivende forbindelse som f.eks. natriumklorittpulver som er mye tryggere når det gjelder lagring, frakting og håndtering. Generering av klordioxydet fra natriumkloritt eller andre klordioxyd-avgivende forbindelser, bevirkes vanligvis ved til-setningen enten av syre, blekemiddel (hypokloritt) eller klor til den klordioxyd-avgivende forbindelse.
Syregenereringen av klordioxyd bevirkes vanligvis ved bruk av en forholdsvis billig uorganisk syre, f.eks. saltsyre, svovelsyre og lignende. Fosfor- eller eddiksyre (eddik) anbefales noen ganger for bruk i hjemmet ettersom de er forholdsvis sikre å håndtere og vanligvis lett tilgjengelige.
Kanadisk patent nr. 9 59 238 beskriver en konvensjonell metode for fremstilling av klordioxyd ved å omsette et alkali-metall- eller jordalkalimetallkloritt som f.eks. natriumkloritt, med en syre. Generelt kan en hvilken som helst syre brukes, deriblant sterke syrer som f.eks. svovelsyre og saltsyre og forholdsvis svake syrer som f.eks. sitron- og vin-syre.
Syreindusert generering av klordioxyd fra natriumkloritt som hittil har vært anbefalt og praktisert, har vist seg å være stort sett ineffektiv . Blandingen som fremstilles ved surgjøring av natriumklorittet, oppviser vanligvis ikke den ønskede desinfeksjonskraft, særlig når det gjelder prosent avliving av mikrober. For å kompensere for denne mangel, er det nødvendig å bruke en økt konsentrasjon av natriumkloritt og syre som kan føre til toksisitetsproblemer, særlig når blandingen brukes i et innelukket luftrom.
Et annet problem stammer fra det faktum at blandingen som fås ved reaksjonen mellom natriumkloritt og syre-materiale, ikke gir et virkelig effektivt oppløsningsmiddel-miljø for produktene som inneholder aktivt klor, som f.eks. klordioxyd, klorsyrling og lignende. Inhalering av disse bestanddelene i en viss utstrekning kan være skadelig for helsen. Det er betydningsfullt at toksisitetsproblemet setter alvorlige begrensninger på den generelle anvendbarheten av desinfeksjonsblandingen, særlig med hensyn til behandling av mennesker.
Disse tidligere kjente fremgangsmåter resulterer i den tilnærmet fullstendige og hurtige omdannelse av kloritt-forløperen til klordioxyd som deretter brukes i form av gassen eller sjeldnere i oppløsning.
De ovenfor angitte problemer med hensyn til bruk av klordioxyd som et desinfeksjonsmiddel ble i en viss utstrekning løst ved bruken av en blanding som omfatter et vannopp-løselig kloritt, som f.eks. natriumkloritt, og melkesyre.
Som beskrevet i US patentskrift nr. 4 084 747, har denne bestemte blandingen forbedrede desinfeksjonsegenskaper, egenskaper som ikke fås ved å bruke den samme blandingen, men fullstendig erstatte melkesyren med andre syrer som f.eks. fosforsyre, eddiksyre, sorbinsyre, fumarsyre, sulfaminsyre, ravsyre, borsyre, garvesyre og sitronsyre. Ut fra økonomiske hensyn og syretilgjengelighet ville det være fordelaktig å være i stand til å bruke andre syrer enn melkesyre, fortsatt oppnå anvendbarhet som desinfeksjonsmiddel, og opprettholde kontroll over dannelseshastigheten for klorsyrling og derved klordioxyd.
Letingen etter forbedrede blandinger for desinfeksjon av forskjellige mikrobebærende stoffer og forbedrede des-inf eks jonsmetoder har vært fortsatt. Foreliggende oppfinnelse ble gjort som et resultat av denne forskning.
Det er således et generelt formål ved foreliggende oppfinnelse å unngå eller i det vesentlige dempe de ovenfor angitte problemer.
Et mer bestemt formål ved foreliggende oppfinnelse er
å tilveiebringe forbedrede blandinger som virker rensende, sanitært og desinfiserende.
Et ytterligere formål ved oppfinnelsen er å tilveiebringe slike desinfeksjonsblandinger som har neglisjerbar toksisitet under betingelser som vanligvis foreskrives for bruk, og således er svært nyttige ved den mikrobedrepende behandling av substrater som f.eks. oppbevaringsbeholdere for mat og kjøkkenutstyr, medisinsk utstyr og lignende.
Et annet formål ved foreliggende oppfinnelse er å tilveiebringe slike blandinger som har kontrollert stabilitet over et forholdsvis bredt pH-område.
Andre formål og fordeler ved foreliggende oppfinnelse vil fremgå av oppsummeringen nedenunder av oppfinnelsen og beskrivelsen av de foretrukkede utførelsesformer.
Ifølge foreliggende oppfinnelse er det tilveiebrakt en klorsyregenererende blanding. Denne blandingen er kjenne-tegnet ved at den omfatter en vandig oppløsning bestående hovedsakelig av
a) fra 0,01 til 6 vekt% av en organisk syre, hvor den organiske syres pK er fra 2,8 til 4,2, og hvor den organiske
syre ikke er melke- eller sitronsyre, eller
b) fra 0,05 til 3 vekt% sitronsyre,
og fra 0,0001 til 0,4 vekt% av et metallkloritt,
basert på den totale vekt av blandingen, slik at kloritt-ionkonsentrasjonen i form av klorsyre ikke er mer enn 15 vekt% av den totale mengden av klorittionkonsentrasjon.
I den foreliggende blanding anvendes det et metallkloritt som en av bestanddelene. Typiske metallkloritter omfatter alkalimetallkloritter og jordalkalimetallkloritter. Natriumkloritt og kaliumkloritt er foretrukket. Natriumkloritt er spesielt foretrukket.
Blandingen kan inneholde andre tilsetningsstoffer som f.eks. chelateringsmidler (f.eks. Na4EDTA), overflateaktive midler (f.eks. Pluronic<®> F68 eller "Nacconol" alkylaryl-sulfonat) eller preserveringsmidler (f.eks. natriumbenzoat).
Mengden av metailkloritt som brukes i denne blandingen, er som nevnt fra 0,0001 til 0,4 vekt%, fortrinnsvis fra 0,01 til 0,3 vekt% av den totale blanding (inkludert vannet).
Den organiske syre som brukes ved foreliggende oppfinnelse, kan være eple-, vin-, glycol-, mandel- eller andre strukturelt lignende syrer.
pK i disse organiske syrer er som nevnt fra 2,8 til 4,2, og fortrinnsvis fra 3,0 til 4,0.
Mengden av organisk syre som brukes, bør være tilstrekkelig til å senke pH i blandingen til under 7, vanligvis fra 2 til 5, og fortrinnsvis fra 2,2 til 2,7. Videre er denne mengden som nevnt fra 0,01 til 6 vekt%, vanligvis fra 0,05 til 3 vekt%, og fortrinnsvis fra 0,1 til 2 vekt% av den totale blandingen (inkludert vannet).
Den klordioxyd-avgivende forbindelse holdes vanligvis adskilt fra den organiske syre før bruk for å forhindre for tidlig reaksjon mellom bestanddelene.
Ved en foretrukket utførelsesform inneholder den klorsyregenererende blanding også en vicinal polyhydroxyforbindelse, fortrinnsvis en vicinal dihydroxyforbindelse, og aller helst en dihydroxyforbindelse med cis-hydroxyl-grupper. Vicinale polyhydroxyforbindelser er velkjente for fagfolk og omfatter dextrose og andre sukkere, som f.eks. xylose, galak-tose, mannose, laktose og ribose, hydroxyethylcellulose, glycerol, sorbitol, inositoler og 1,2-propylenglycol.
Bruken av slike vicinale polyhydroxyforbindelser sammen med den klordioxyd-avgivende forbindelse og organisk syre gir en synergistisk blanding. F.eks. økes dannelseshastigheten for den aktive forbindelse under anvendelse av en blanding som omfatter natriumkloritt og mandelsyre, i vesentlig grad ved tilsetning av en forholdsvis liten mengde av en vicinal polyhydroxyforbindelse. Således økes dannelseshastigheten for den aktive forbindelse i vesentlig grad ved bruk av så lite som 2% dextrose i blandingen vis-å-vis en blanding som inneholder bare natriumkloritt og en av de organiske syrer som er omtalt ovenfor. Sagt på en annen måte kan en blanding med den vicinale polyhydroxyforbindelse fremstilles med i det vesentlige den samme mikrobedrepende styrke i løpet av en bestemt tidsperiode som en blanding som ikke inneholder polyhydroxyforbindelsen, selv om blandingen som inneholder polyhydroxyforbindelsen, inneholder betydelig mye mindre organisk syre og natriumkloritt.
Mengden av polyhydroxyforbindelse kan variere mye, men ved foreliggende oppfinnelse anvendes det vanligvis mindre enn 50, vanligvis fra 1 til 20, og fortrinnsvis fra 2 til 10 vekt% av den totale blandingen.
De ovenfor beskrevne blandinger kan brukes til å des-infisere forskjellige substrater. Uttrykket "substrat" er, slik det er brukt i foreliggende beskrivelse, ment å dekke enhver type overflate eller bærer som ville kunne være et sted for akkumulering av mikrober, virus, sporer, bak-terier, fungi, dvs. alle typer parasittiske mikroorganismer. Opplagte eksempler omfatter instrumenter for kirurgisk og dental bruk, rnatvarebehoIdere, menneske- og dyrehud, vev og slimhinner (munnvev), svømmebasseng, husholdningsvasker, søppelbeholdere, baderomsutstyr, etc. Rensevirkning kan økes ved tilsetning av et fuktemiddel, idet dette er forenlig med, og uten noen tendens til å reagere med, klordioxyd. Spesielt virksomme fuktemidler for slik bruk er anioniske overflateaktive midler som er kommersielt tilgjengelige. Foreliggende blandinger i aerosolform kan brukes effektivt til å ødelegge luftbårne eller atmosfæriske mikrober, som f.eks. befinner seg i et innelukket luftrom.
Når disse blandingene brukes på menneske- eller dyrehud, kan de også vanligvis påføres sammen med et gelmedium på grunn av gelens evne til å feste seg til huden. Ethvert geldannende middel eller fortykningsmiddel som er ikke-
giftig og ikke-reaktivt med den klordioxyd-avgivende forbindelse og den organiske syre, kan brukes. Cellulosegeler, særlig methylcellulosegeler, polyamid og siliciumdioxyd-baserte geler, er foretrukket. Når gelformen anvendes, kan også preserveringsmidler brukes. F.eks. kan natriumbenzoat brukes som et preserveringsmiddel i gelen som inneholder organisk syre.
Mengden av fortykningsmiddel i gelen varierer avhengig av den bestemte syre og den bestemte klordioxyd-avgivende forbindelse som brukes. Mengden kan imidlertid generelt
være fra 0,5 til 8 vekt%, vanligvis fra 2 til 3 vekt%, og fortrinnsvis fra 2,5 til 2,7 vekt% av gelen. Mengden av preserveringsmiddel i gelen kan generelt være fra 0,01 til 0,05 vekt%, vanligvis fra 0,01 til 0,04 vekt%, og fortrinnsvis fra 0,02 til 0,03 vekt% av den totale blandingen.
Når det brukes gel, bør den påføres rikelig. Dersom gelen absorberes eller fjernes ved et uhell, kan den om nødvendig påføres på nytt.
Disse blandingene kan også brukes i såpeprodukter, tannpastaer, munnvann og lignende.
Foreliggende oppfinnelse er illustrert ved hjelp av eksemplet nedenunder. Alle deler og prosenter i eksemplet såvel som i beskrivelsen.og kravene, er basert på vekt med mindre noe annet er angitt.
Eksempel
Dette eksemplet illustrerer bruken av foreliggende blanding som et munnvann.
Det fremstilles en første oppløsning ved å oppløse
0,4 g natriumkloritt av teknisk finhet, 0,17 g Na^EDTA •
4 1^0 i pulverform, 0,5 g 1-carvon (peppermyntesmak) og
den passende mengde av et forenlig gult fargestoff av mat-varefinhet i 500 ml vandig oppløsning. En andre oppløsning ble fremstilt ved å oppløse 1,375 g vannfri sitronsyre og den passende mengde "FD&C blue" i 500 ml av en 10 vekt% vandig oppløsning av glycerol.
De to oppløsningene ble blandet, fortrinnsvis like før bruk, i tilnærmet like store mengder, og blandingen ble brukt på vanlig måte som et munnvann. Dette resulterte i forbedrede baktericide, fungicide og smaksegenskaper sammenlignet med antiseptiske munnvann som for tiden er tilgjengelige i handelen.
Claims (3)
1. Klorsyregenererende blanding, karakterisert ved at den omfatter en vandig oppløsning bestående hovedsakelig av a) fra 0,01 til 6 vekt% av en organisk syre, hvor den organiske syres pK er fra 2,8 til 4,2, og hvor den organiske syre ikke er melke- eller sitronsyre, eller b) fra 0,05 til 3 vekt% sitronsyre,
og fra 0,0001 til 0,4 vekt% av et metallkloritt, basert på den totale vekt av blandingen, slik at kloritt-ionkonsentrasjonen i form av klorsyre ikke er mer enn 15 vekt% av den totale mengden av klorittionkonsentrasjon.
2. Klorsyregenererende blanding ifølge krav 1, karakterisert ved at metallklorittet er til stede i en mengde fra 0,01 til 0,3 vekt%.
3. Klorsyregenererende blanding ifølge krav 1 eller 2, karakterisert ved at den også inneholder en vicinal polyhydroksyforbindelse.
