Description
Fremgangsmåte til fremstilling av klorerte fluorholdige hydrocarboner.
Oppfinnelsen vedrører en fremgangsmåte til fremstilling av klorerte, fluorholdige organiske forbindelser, og særlig en
forbedret fremgangsmåte til fremstilling
av disse forbindelser ved å la alifatiske
hydrocarboner med to carbonatomer reagere med hydrogenfluorid i nærvær av katalysatorer.
Det kjennes fremgangsmåter til fremstilling av fluorerte eller klorerte forbindelser, av hvilke noen gjennomføres i væs-kefasen ved under trykk å koke og tilbake-løpskjøle en blanding av hydrogenfluorid
og et halogenert organisk stoff i nærvær
av katalysatorer som f.eks. antimonhalo-genider.
Andre fremgangsmåter utføres i damp-fasen ved å la en blanding av hydrogenfluorid og et halogenert organisk stoff passere over katalysatorer, som vanligvis er
basert på fluorider av aluminium, krom,
zirkon, thorium osv.
Alle disse kjente fremgangsmåter an-vender som utgangsmaterialer halogenerte
organiske forbindelser med to carbonatomer som perklorethylen, triklorethylen,
hexaklorethan osv. når de brukes til fremstilling av fluorerte og klorfluorerte forbindelser med to carbonatomer.
Det kjennes også en halogenerings-prosess for hydrocarboner, og denne pro-sess består i å la hydrocarbonene i gassfasen reagere med hydrogenfluorid, oxygen,
klor og/eller hydrogenklorid.
Disse kjente fremgangsmåter har
ulemper og mangler som f.eks. nødvendig-
heten av at de halogenerte forbindelser al-lerede skal anvendes som utgangsmaterialer.
En annen ulempe ved de kjente fremgangsmåter er de lave omdannelser og de lave utbytter av nyttige forbindelser.
Noen av de kjente fremgangsmåter kan neppe kontrolleres termisk, og andre har meget lave reaksjonshastigheter.
Noen av de kjente fremgangsmåter som f.eks. slike, ved hvilke klorfluoreringen av hydrocarboner utføres i nærvær av oxygen, har den ulempen at det dannes vann som fremmer korrosjonen av de materialer som anvendes til konstruksjon av anlegget.
Ved en annen fremgangsmåte (norsk patent nr. 106 792) er det mulig å fremstille klorerte og særlig klorfluorerte methaner med stor reaksjonshastighet og i høye utbytter, ved katalytisk reaksjon mellom hydrogenfluorid, klor og methan i nærvær av en blanding av halogenerte hydrocarboner som føres til reaksjonssonen sammen med reaktantene, hvilken blanding av halogenerte hydrocarboner gjenvinnes i samme mengder og med de samme forhold mellom bestanddelene ved slutten av prosessen og resirkuleres kontinuerlig. Ved hjelp av denne fremgangsmåte kan man kun fremstille klorfluormethaner, men ik-ke klorfluorethaner.
Denne ulempe tvinger konstruktørene til å anvende materialer som er i besid-delse av særlig kjemisk dyktig motstands-evne.
Det er oppfinnelsens formål å angi en forbedret fremgangsmåte til fremstilling av klorerte fluorholdige hydrocarboner, idet det som utgangsmateriale anvendes alifatiske hydrocarboner med to carbonatomer, å angi en fremgangsmåte som foregår med så høye reaksjonshastigheter at det frem-kommer et stort utbytte pr. vektenhet katalysator, å angi en fremgangsmåte som ikke har den ulempe at det dannes vann, hvorved korrosjonsfenomenene av de materialer som anvendes til konstruksjon av anlegget begrenses i betydelig grad, slik at anlegget kan konstrueres med materialer av middelmådig kvalitet, å angi en fremgangsmåte som også for høye reaksjonshastigheter lett kan kontrolleres termisk, og å angi en katalytisk fremgangsmåte til fremstilling av halogenerte, fluorholdige organiske forbindelser som ikke krever hyp-pig aktivering av katalysatormassen eller periodisk erstatning av denne.
Ifølge oppfinnelsen fremstilles klorerte, fluorholdige derivater av alifatiske hydrocarboner med 2 carbonatomer, ved at man lar en gassformet blanding som består av ethylen eller ethan, klor, hydrogenfluorid med et molforhold klor/hydrocar-bon mellom 10 og 1, fortrinnsvis med et molforhold klor/ethylen mellom 4,8 og 5,2 og et molforhold klor/ethan mellom 5,8 og 6,2 og et molforhold hydrogenfluorid/hydro-carbon mellom 1 og 10 og en eller flere halogenerte hydrokarboner med en eller to carbonatomer reagere i nærvær av en eller flere faste klorerings- og/eller fluorerings-katalysatorer på basis av metalloxyder eller metallsalter, fortrinnsvis på basis av thoriumtetrafluorid, ved temperaturer som er lavere enn ca. 600° C, fortrinnsvis innenfor intervallet mellom 300° og 500° C, ved kontakttider mindre enn ca. 30 sekunder, fortrinnsvis innen intervallet mellom 4 og 10 sekunder.
Denne blanding av halogenerte hydrocarboner som innføres i katalysatoren blan-det med utgangsmaterialene består av halogenerte alifatiske hydrocarboner med et eller to carbonatomer.
Eksempler på slike forbindelser er: ccio = cch; CHCb - CHCb; cf2ci - cci3; CHaCl-CFCk; CFCI2- CCh; CCI2 = CHC1; ecu - cci3; CH2CI - CH2CI; ccis - CHCia; CH2 = CHC1; CC1F = CHCl; CC1F = CC12; CFCh - CFCI2; C2H5CI; CC14; CHCI3; CH2CI2, osv.
Denne liste er dog bare illustrerende, ettersom mange andre forbindelser med fordel kan anvendes. Ifølge oppfinnelsen anvendes det fortrinnsvis en blanding som består av halogenerte alifatiske hydrocarboner, som kan være mellomprodukter, bi-produkter og reaksjonsprodukter i forbindelse med klorfluoreringsreaksjonen av ethan og ethylen.
Sammensetningen av denne blanding av halogenerte hydrocarboner (i det følg-ende kalt «gjensirkuleringsblandingen») kan varieres innen vide grenser, både fra et kvalitativt og kvantitativt synspunkt, d.v.s. ved å betrakte enten de enkelte halogenerte hydrocarboner, som blandingen består av, eller den prosentdel av hver av dem som inngår i gjensirkuleringsblandingen.
En foretrukket form for den foreliggende oppfinnelse er som gjensirkulerings-bl anding å anvende den samme blanding av halogenerte alifatiske hydrocarboner som den som oppnås sammen med hoved-produktene i klorfluoreringsprosessen ifølge oppfinnelsen.
I noen tilfelle ble det funnet å være fordelaktig til gjensirkuleringsblandingen å tilsette slike inaktive luftarter som nitro-gen eller reaksjonsbiprodukter som hydrogenklorid.
Forholdet mellom gjensirkuleringsblandingen og reaksjonskomponenter kan variere innen et stort område, og det avhenger av reaksjonsbetingelsene og av sammensetningen av den blanding av stoffer som fremstilles.
Det molære forhold av de stoffer som skal reageres med hverandre varierer av-hengig av de halogenerte hydrocarboner som hovedsakelig skal oppnås innenfor mengden av de forskjellige, teoretisk mu-lige halogenerte fluorholdige hydrocarboner.
Når det fortrinnsvis ønskes fremstilt slike halogenerte hydrocarboner som inneholder fluor og ikke inneholder umettede bindinger eller hydrogenatomer, må for ethylenets vedkommende det molære forhold klor/ethylen være større enn 2 og fortrinnsvis mellom 4,8 og 5,2, i motsetning til for ethanets vedkommende det molære forhold klor/ethan må være større enn 2 og fortrinnsvis mellom 5,8 og 6,2.
Ikke desto mindre kan også meget høyere forhold anvendes, som for eksempel 10.
Når det fortrinnsvis skal fremstilles slike halogenerte fluorholdige hydrocarboner som har umettede bindinger og/eller stadig inneholder hydrogenatomer, må det molære forhold klor/ethylen for ethylenets vedkommende være lavere enn eller lik 5, i motsetning til at det molære forhold klor/ethan for ethanets vedkommende må være lavere enn eller lik 6.
Molære forhold mellom hydrogenfluorid og ethylen eller ethan kan variere innenfor et meget stort område. Ifølge oppfinnelsen arbeides det med et forhold som ligger i intervallet mellom 1 og 10, avhen-gig av de produkter som fortrinnsvis skal fremstilles blant de teoretisk oppnåelige.
Den foreliggende oppfinnelse kan ut-føres ved å blande de produkter som skal reageres med hverandre med gjensirkuleringsblandingen i vilkårlig rekkefølge. Ikke desto mindre foretrekkes det først å blande utgangshydrocarbonene med to carbonatomer sammen med hydrogenfluoridet, deretter å tilsette gjensirkuleringsblandingen og endelig tilsette kloret.
Katalysatorer som anvendes ved ut-førelsen av den foreliggende oppfinnelse er kjente og består vanligvis av oxyder eller salter (særlig halogenider) av metaller, som enten kan anvendes alene eller i bland-inger, og passende understøttet på indifferente materialer.
Særlig tilfredsstillende resultater er blitt oppnådd ved å anvende katalysatorer på basis av thoriumtetrafluorid, som alle-rede beskrevet og anført i påstandene i norsk patent nr. 106 791, slik at disse katalysatorer tilhører den gruppe som foretrekkes ved utførelsen av den foreliggende oppfinnelse.
De katalysatorer som skal anvendes ved fremgangsmåten ifølge oppfinnelsen kan aktiveres ved termisk behandling etter kjente metoder, ved temperaturer innenfor intervallet mellom 350° og 700° C, fortrinnsvis mellom 400° og 500° C i nærvær av luft eller indifferente luftarter som ni-trogen, eller ved termisk behandling ved en temperatur innenfor intervallet mellom 200° og 600° C i nærvær av hydrogenfluorid og/eller klor.
En særlig foretrukket utførelsesform for oppfinnelsen er den å utføre reaksjo-nen under utførelsen av den særlige tek-niske finesse som går ut på å dele katalysatoren i to adskilte katalysatorer som det er blitt beskrevet og anført i påstandene i norsk patent nr. 112 305.
Fremgangsmåten ifølge oppfinnelsen utføres ved en temperatur som er lavere enn 600° C, men det foretrukne tempera-turintervall ligger mellom 300° og 500° C.
Temperaturen kan være ensartet i hele katalysesonen. Den kan imidlertid også være uensartet som i tilfelle av den fremgangsmåte som er beskrevet og anført i påstandene i norsk påstand nr. 112 305, ifølge hvilken det anvendes to katalysatorer som arbeider ved forskjellige temperaturer.
Det trykk ved hvilket fremgangsmåten ifølge oppfinnelsen utøves kan varieres innenfor et meget bredt intervall, da det kan arbeides enten med atmosfæretrykk eller med overtrykk.
Kontakttiden (den tid i hvilken den luftformige blanding kommer i kontakt med katalysatoren) kan variere innenfor meget vide grenser og avhenger hovedsakelig av naturen av de produkter som skal fremstilles. Det har vist seg at det oppnås større mengder fluorerte produkter ved lange kontakttider.
Under utførelsen av den foreliggende oppfinnelse anvendes det kontakttider på mindre enn 30 sekunder, fortrinnsvis kontakttider mellom 4 og 10 sekunder.
De produkter som oppnås ved fremgangsmåten ifølge oppfinnelsen er halogenerte alifatiske hydrocarboner med to carbonatomer.
Eksempler på foretrukne forbindelser
er:
CFaCI - CF2CI; CF2CI - CFCI2, CF2CI - CCI3; CFCI2 - CFC12; C2FCI5.
Det er ikke desto mindre mulig ved å variere noen parametre som temperatur, kontakttid, molære forhold av den inn-førte luftformige blanding og gjensirkuleringsblandingen, selektivt å rette reaksjo-nen mot en bestemt halogenert forbindelse eller mot en bestemt blanding av halogenerte forbindelser.
Etter en teori som ikke har noen be-grensende verdi på den foreliggende oppfinnelse, virker gjensirkuleringsblandingen som et indifferent fortynningsmiddel over-for blandingen av reaksjonsprodukter og tillater fra et termisk synspunkt en lettere kontroll av klorfluoreringsreaksjonen. Ikke desto mindre viser fordelen ved å anvende gjensirkuleringsblandingen seg overrask-ende også med hensyn til utbyttene av de ønskede produkter.
Således viser de fordeler som stammer fra anvendelsen av gjensirkuleringsblandingen seg hovedsakelig på to punkter: For det første med hensyn til den større mu-lighet for å kontrollere prosessen termisk, og for det annet med hensyn til en betydelig økning av utbyttene av nyttige produkter.
De følgende eksempler, hvis formål er klarere å illustrere oppfinnelsesidéen ved den foreliggende oppfinnelse viser noen arbeidsbetingelser som imidlertid kan varieres meget.
Eksempel 1
Man lar en luftstrøm passere over ak-tivert aluminium (kommersielt kjent som
«ALCOA F-10») som holdes ved 500° C i to timer.
Deretter behandles dette aluminium, mens temperaturen holdes på 300° C, med en strøm av hydrogenfluorid inntil full-stendig metning (2—6 timer), og det ma-les og siktes til slutt for å samle opp det materiale hvis partikkelstørrelse ligger mellom 100 og 150 mesh.
Dette materialet impregneres med en vandig oppløsning av thoriumtetraklorid-monohydrat i en mengde av 75 vektspro-sent og tørres til slutt.
650 ml av dette materiale innføres i en reaksjonsbeholder av den type med hvilken man kan utføre katalytiske reaksjoner etter den såkalte «fluidisert masse»-metode.
Gjennom denne katalytiske masse lar man en luftformig blanding passere, hvilken blanding består av klor, hydrogenfluorid, etylen og en blanding av gjensirkulerende halogenerte hydrocarboner med følg-ende molforhold:
Blandingen av resirkulerende halogenerte hydrocarboner har følgende molære sammensetning:
Temperaturen holdes ved omkring 470° C. Luftartene forblir i katalysatoren i 4 sekunder.
Luftformig blanding som forlater reaktoren føres til en destillasjonskolonne hvis topp avkjøles ved hjelp av et bad bestående av tørris av triklorethylen.
Fra tårnets bunn ekstraheres det en blanding av halogenerte hydrocarboner, som etter fordampning utgjør den blanding av halogenerte hydrocarboner som til-føres reaksjonsbeholderen sammen med de stoffer som skal reagere.
Den luftformige blanding som utgår fra tårnets topp inneholder reaksjonspro-duktene og biproduktene. Den underkastes først en vasking med vann, deretter med 5 % vandige oppløsninger av natrium-hydroxyd, deretter kondenseres den og analyseres ved kromatografi i gassfasen.

Det arbeides i dette eksempel i den samme reaksjonsbeholder, under de samme arbeidsbetingelser og med den samme katalysator som beskrevet i eksempel 1.
Gjennom 675 ml av en katalysator på basis av fluorert aluminium med en par-tikkelstørrelse mellom 100 og 150 mesh lar man en gassformig blanding med følgende sammensetning passere:

Reaksjonstempepraturen holdes på
455° C og kontakttiden er 4 sekunder.
Fraskill else av den gjensirkulerende blanding, isolasjon, rensning og undersø-kelse av produktene utføres som i eksempel 1.

Eksempel 4
Gamma-aluminiumoksyd aktiveres ved oppvarming til 500° C i 2 timer, hvorpå det fluoreres med hydrogenfluorid ved 450° C.
670 cm3 av det således oppnådde fluorerte aluminiumoxyd med en partikkelstør-relse mellom 42 og 325 mesh ble innført i en reaktor av den type som er velegnet til gjennomførelse av katalytiske reaksjoner med fluidiserte masser.
Under opprettholdelse av reaktorens temperatur på 400° C ble det gjennom katalysatoren ført en gassformig blanding bestående av klor, hydrogenfluorid, ethan og en blanding av resirkulerende halogenerte hydrocarboner.
Det molære forhold mellom reaktantene var følgende:
Blandingen av resirkulerende halogenerte hydrocarboner hadde følgende molære sammensetning:
Kontakttiden var 5,3 sekunder. Den gassformige blanding ble ført til en frak-sjoneringskolonne, hvis topp avkjøles ved hjelp av en blanding av tørris og triklorethylen. Fra kolonnens bunn ble der tatt ut en blanding av halogenerte hydrocarboner, som etter fordampning utgjorde den blanding av halogenerte hydrocarboner som ble ført til reaktoren sammen med reaktantene. Den gassformige blanding som forlot toppen av kolonnen, inneholdt re-aksjonsproduktene og -biproduktene. Denne gassformige blanding ble underkastet en vask, først med vann og deretter med en vandig, 5 % oppløsning av natriumhydro-xyd, hvorpå den kondenseres og analyseres ved gassfasekromatografi.
Følgende omdannelsesgrader ble oppnådd:
