Abstract

A cord or cable for strengthening rubber or plastic objects is made of steel wires with a carbon content of 0.6-1%. It has a core of plaited wires with layers of spirally wound wires about it. Three layers are wound on the core. They have 9, 15 and 21 wires resp. All the wires have about the same dia. The cord has a compact construction. The loss of tensile strength, defined as the ratio of the actual strength to the sum of the strengths of the individual wires, is slight.
