1483294 Marine transmission systems MANNESMANN AG 27 Sept 1974 [2 Oct 1973] 42140/74 Heading B7V A gear-box 4 which transmits power from ships' main engines 9 to drive shafting 6, 7 is supported on two bearings 12, 13 which do not take axial loads, and a third bearing 3 which does take axial loads. The bearing 3 is on the output shaft so that the gearbox casing is not subjected to axial loads, and the alignment of gears is not affected. The bearings 12, 13, are resilient in the fore-and-aft direction; for example they may be elastomeric blocks or as shown they may be leaf springs formed by the webs of supporting members 11.
