Abstract
1373967 Heating fuel and combustion air SULZER BROS Ltd 14 Dec 1971 [15 Dec 1970] 58019/71 Heading F4B An oil-fired boiler comprises an oil burner 5, and a combustion chamber 1 containing heat exchangers 3, 4 respectively for water to be heated and heat transfer fluid, which fluid is passed to preheaters 10, 21 in heavy fuel oil and combustion air supply lines 7, 6 respectively. The fuel oil temperature is maintained constant by a temperature sensor 31 and a three-way valve 13. When starting the boiler, the burner 5 is supplied with light oil, or alternatively an electrical oil preheater is employed. In another embodiment, the preheaters 10, 21 are formed by two heat exchangers within a common casing which is included in the closed heat transfer fluid circuit and the rate of flow of heat transfer fluid is controlled by adjusting the height of an open expansion vessel which communicates with the circuit.
