Abstract

The boiler has a conventional flow (D) and return (R). A branch connection (4) from the flow is taken to a small accelerator pump (3) which draws off part of the flow and forces it through a coiled heat exchanger (1) from which it returns through a branch connection (5) in the return. The heat exchanger (1) is placed within the combustion chamber (2) of the boiler and is protected by suitable refractory material. The circuit contains isolating valves (6) and a regulating valve (8). The accelerator (3) is controlled with the burner so that it is on only when the burner is on. Heating a small portion of the total liquid flow with the very high temperature in the combustion chamber gives more efficient heat transfer and raises the overall efficiency.
