Abstract

Se describe un metodo para elaborar copolimeros de bloque selectivamente hidrogenados de hidrocarburos aromaticos de vinilo y dienos conjugados, que comprende: (a) polimerizar anionicamente hidrocarburos aromaticos de vinilo y dienos conjugados para producir copolimeros de bloque con extremos de cadenas vivientes; (b) terminar los extremos de cadenas vivientes con un miembro del grupo que consiste de un alcohol, hidrogeno y mezclas de los mismos, para preparar un copolimero de bloque terminado y (c) poner en contacto los copolimeros de bloque terminados con hidrogeno a una temperatura de 20 a 1750¦C en la presencia de un catalizador preparado al combinar un carboxilato de cobalto con un alquilo de aluminio, en donde: (i) si el polimero se termina con un alcohol y el alcohol es un alcohol lineal, el alcohol lineal se usa para terminar los extremos de cadenas vivientes en una cantidad tal que la relacion molar de alcohol: extremo de cadena viviente es de 0.05 a 1.2; (ii) si el polimero se termina con un alcohol y el alcohol es un alcohol ramificado, el alcohol ramificado se usa para terminar los extremos de cadenas vivientes en una cantidad tal que la relacion molar de alcohol extremo de cadena viviente es de 0.05 a aproximadamente 3.0; y (iii) si el polimero se termina con un alcohol y el alcohol es una mezcla de un alcohol lineal y un alcohol ramificado, el alcohol lineal se usa para terminar los extremos de cadenas vivientes en una cantidad tal que la relacion molar de alcohol lineal: extremo de cadena viviente es de 0.05 a 1.2.
