Abstract
Un dispositivo retinal artificial 10, implantado en el espacio subretinal del ojo en personas con ciertos tipos de ceguera retinal, induce vision artificial mediante estimulacion electrica de las celulas viables restantes de la retina; el dispositivo de retina artificial 10 incluye una unidad de electrodos de estimulacion 12, de preferencia colocada en el espacio subretinal y una extension de tipo cola 30 que aloja una unidad de electrodo de tierra de electrodo distante 16 que puede estar colocado en la cavidad vitrea; la unidad de electrodo de estimulacion incluye una disposicion de subunidades de etectrodo 22; cada subunidad de electrodo 22 incluye uno o mas microfotodiodos 23a electricamente conectados, por ejemplo, en serie para proveer voltaje y comente incrementados al microelectrodo; la unidad de electrodo de estimulacion 12 y el electrodo de regreso a tierra 14 de la unidad de electrodo a tierra 16, de preferencia se colocan en lados opuestos de la neurorretina para permitir estimulacion electrica transretinal eficiente y de alta resolucion de las celulas neurorretinales.
