Abstract
Un apilado de celda que comprende una celda electroquímica, o una pluralidad de celdas electroquímicas axialmente arregladas, con una placa de extremo en cada extremo del apilado, cada celda que comprende un área activa circundada por un área periférica, en donde el área activa comprende el ensamblaje de electrodo de membrana, y el área periférica incluye uno o más canales para reactivos, y en donde el apilado comprende medios para aplicar presión axialmente al área activa para poner en contacto la membrana y los electrodos, y medios separados para aplicar presión axialmente al área periférica. Además, un método para llevar a cabo una reacción electroquímica en una celda que comprende un área activa circundada por un área periférica, comprende aplicar presión al área activa, y variar la presión durante la operación de la celda, en donde el área activa incluye el ensamblaje de electrodo de membrana y es el área donde se presenta la reacción de celda.
