Abstract

La presente invención se refiere a hidroxiapatita contaminada con iones Fe2+ y iones Fe3+ que sustituyen parcialmente los iones calcio en la red cristalina. La hidroxiapatita se caracteriza por un magnetismo intrínseco de 0.05 a 8 emu/g, medido por la aplicación de un campo magnético de 34 Oe, debido a la presencia de nano-dominios magnéticos en la red cristalina de HA, dada la cantidad limitada de fases secundarias magnéticas presentes, menor a aproximadamente 3% en volumen. La hidroxiapatita intrínsecamente magnética puede cargarse con sustancias biológicas seleccionadas del grupo que consiste de proteínas, genes, células madre, factores de crecimiento, factores de vascularización, sustancias activas y fármacos, bajo el control de un campo magnético externo, como un portador y agente de liberación para sustancias biológicas o fármacos, como un agente de contraste en el diagnóstico o para regeneración de huesos u osteocartílagos.
