Abstract
La presente invención se refiere a un método mejorado para la producción de aluminio mediante la reducción electrolítica de alúmina en una celda de reducción electrolítica, haciendo pasar corriente eléctrica a través de un baño conocido de sal fundida de fluoruro, compuesto de NaF y AlF3 en proporciones relativas desde 1.0/1 hasta 1.5/1 y con hasta 10 por ciento total de CaF2, MgF2, entre un ánodo o ánados superiores y un cátodo inferior, a un voltaje dentro del rango de 3.5 a 5 volts, conteniendo el baño 2 a 8 por ciento de alúmina disuelta, siendo conservado a una temperatura dentro del rango de 940 a 1000 grados centígrados caracterizado en que la alúmina alimentada hacia la celda de reducción electrolítica comprende una mezcla de partículas de alúmina calcinadas convencionalmente, con gránulo de alúmina, formando tales gránulos 2 a 50 por ciento de dicha mezcla y que han sido producidos mediante la congregacion de partículas finas de alúmina parcialmete deshidratadas de un tamaño menor a 44 micrones, a partir de los gases de escape de un horno de calcinación de alúmnia trihidratada, y la formación de gránulos de un tamaño de 5000 a 150 micrones a partir de tales partículas finas, ya sea solas, o en mezcla con partículas de alúmina calcinadas.
