Abstract
Un catalizador heterogéneo que comprende un soporte y oro, en donde: (i) el soporte comprende alúmina, (ii) el catalizador comprende de 0.1 a 5 % en peso de oro, (iii) al menos 90 % en peso del oro está en el 60 % externo del volumen de catalizador, y (iv) las partículas del catalizador tienen un diámetro promedio de 200 micrones a 30 mm; en donde los porcentajes en peso se basan en el peso del catalizador. El catalizador de la invención se usa en un proceso para producir metacrilato de metilo (MMA) que comprende tratar metacroleína con metanol en un reactor de esterificación oxidativo.
