Abstract
En un primer aspecto de la invención, se proporciona un expansor del iris que incluye un cuerpo no-metálico, unitario, multi-segmentado que es expandible a partir de un primer estado a un segundo estado. El segundo estado define un espacio más grande que el primer estado con el cuerpo definido por una pluralidad de segmentos conectados por uniones elásticas. En otro aspecto, un expansor del iris es proporcionado con un cuerpo multi-segmentado que es expandible a partir de un primer estado a un segundo estado de mayor espacio. Por lo menos una abertura se forma en el cuerpo con un canal que se extiende entre estos integrados en el cuerpo de modo que ninguna porción del mismo esté expuesta desde el exterior del cuerpo. El canal está formado para dar cabida a una porción de un instrumento para causar el ajuste del cuerpo evitando el contacto directo del instrumento con el tejido del iris.
