Abstract
Un proceso para el endurecimiento localizado de componentes de lámina de acero incluye barrer un rayo láser en una dirección de barrido a través de una porción predeterminada del componente de lámina de acero. El rayo láser calienta selectivamente el material dentro de la porción predeterminada del componente de lámina de acero hasta una temperatura de transformación de austenización. Durante el barrido del rayo láser a través de la porción predeterminada, una fuente de enfriamiento externo se aplica al material dentro de la porción predeterminada e inmediatamente detrás del rayo láser a lo largo de la dirección de barrido del rayo láser. La fuente de enfriamiento externo se selecciona para enfriar el material en una tasa suficientemente rápida para formar una región localmente endurecida que se define sustancialmente dentro de la porción predeterminada. Con posterioridad a la aplicación de la fuente de enfriamiento externo, al material dentro de la porción predeterminada del componente de lámina de acero se le permite enfriar a temperatura ambiente.
