Abstract

Se describen composiciones y métodos mejorados para controlar plagas. En particular, se proporcionan nuevas proteínas Cry1Ba diseñadas (eCry1Ba) que tienen toxicidad mejorada para las plagas de insectos lepidópteros. Mediante la sustitución de al menos un aminoácido en el dominio I de una proteína Cry1Ba se diseña una proteína Cry1Ba diseñada que tiene propiedades insecticidas sustancialmente alteradas. Asimismo, se describe un método para elaborar las proteínas Cry1Ba diseñadas y métodos para utilizar las secuencias de ácidos nucleicos de ecry1Ba, por ejemplo en plantas transgénicas para expresar proteínas eCry1B para conferir protección contra el daño de insectos.
