Abstract

Se describen diseños para una locomotora totalmente eléctrica, energizada por batería y configuraciones de tren y locomotora relacionadas. En una modalidad ejemplar particular, una locomotora puede manejarse por una pluralidad de motores de tracción energizados exclusivamente por un ensamble de batería, el cual de preferencia comprende baterías recargables u otros medios de almacenamiento de energía. La locomotora no porta motor de combustión interna a bordo y no recibe energía durante la operación de ninguna fuente externa de la locomotora. Un sistema de administración de batería monitorea e iguala las baterías para mantener un estado de carga (SOC) deseado y profundidad de descarga (DOD) para cada batería. Un sistema de frenos puede configurarse para priorizar un mecanismo de frenado regenerativo sobre un mecanismo de frenado de aire para que la energía de frenado sustancial pueda recuperarse para recargar el ensamble de batería. Varias configuraciones de locomotora o tren que involucran una o más locomotoras totalmente eléctricas o una o más portadoras de batería podrán implementarse.
