Abstract
Description
Claims (15)
- 매트릭스 형상으로 배치된 복수의 화소의 각각에 반사부 및 투과부를 갖는 액정 표시 장치에 있어서,상호 대향하여 배치된 제1 기판과 제2 기판과의 사이에 액정층을 보유한 액정 표시 패널과,상기 제1 기판의 상기 액정층을 보유하는 면과는 반대의 외면에 설치된 제1 편광 제어 소자와,상기 제2 기판의 상기 액정층을 보유하는 면과는 반대의 외면에 설치된 제2 편광 제어 소자를 구비하며,상기 제1 편광 제어 소자 및 상기 제2 편광 제어 소자는, 상기 액정층에 타원 편광의 편광 상태를 갖는 광이 입사하도록, 이들을 통과하는 광의 편광 상태를 제어하고,또한, 상기 액정 표시 패널에 대하여 주시각 방향으로 입사하는 타원 편광의 타원율은, 반주시각 방향으로 입사하는 타원 편광의 타원율보다 큰 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제1항에 있어서,상기 액정 표시 패널에 입사하는 타원 편광의 타원율 분포는, 상기 액정 표시 패널의 법선 방향을 기준으로 하여 주시각 방향과 반주시각 방향에서 비대칭인 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제1항에 있어서,상기 액정 표시 패널에 입사하는 타원 편광의 타원율 분포는, 주시각 방향에서 타원율의 최대값을 갖는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제1항에 있어서,상기 제1 편광 제어 소자 및 상기 제2 편광 제어 소자의 각각은, 적어도 1개의 편광판과, 적어도 1개의 위상차판으로 구성된 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제4항에 있어서,상기 위상차판은, 소정 파장의 광에 대하여 정상 광선과 이상 광선과의 사이에 1/4 파장의 위상차를 부여하는 1/4 파장판인 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제4항에 있어서,상기 제1 편광 제어 소자 및 상기 제2 편광 제어 소자에서는, 상기 편광판의 흡수축과 상기 위상차판의 지상축이 이루는 예각의 각도는, 25도 이상 70도 이하의 범위에 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제1항에 있어서,상기 제1 편광 제어 소자 측으로부터 상기 액정 표시 패널을 조명하는 백라이트 유닛을 더 구비하는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제1항에 있어서,표시 모드가 노멀 화이트인 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제1항에 있어서,상기 제1 편광 제어 소자 및 상기 제2 편광 제어 소자 중 적어도 한쪽은, 2축성의 위상차판을 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제1항에 있어서,상기 제1 편광 제어 소자 및 상기 제2 편광 제어 소자 중 적어도 한쪽은, 액정 분자를 하이브리드 배향시킨 액정 필름을 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제1항에 있어서,상기 제1 편광 제어 소자는, 1개의 편광판과, 소정 파장의 광에 대하여 정상 광선과 이상 광선과의 사이에 1/4 파장의 위상차를 부여하는 1축성의 1/4 파장판과, 액정 분자를 하이브리드 배향시킨 액정 필름으로 구성되고,상기 제2 편광 제어 소자는, 1개의 편광판과, 1축성의 1/4 파장판으로 구성된 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제1항에 있어서,상기 제1 편광 제어 소자는, 1개의 편광판과, 소정 파장의 광에 대하여 정상 광선과 이상 광선과의 사이에 1/4 파장의 위상차를 부여하는 2축성의 1/4 파장판과, 액정 분자를 하이브리드 배향시킨 액정 필름으로 구성되고,상기 제2 편광 제어 소자는, 1개의 편광판과, 1축성의 1/4 파장판으로 구성된 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 매트릭스 형상으로 배치된 복수의 화소의 각각에 반사부 및 투과부를 갖는 액정 표시 장치에 있어서,상호 대향하여 배치된 제1 기판과 제2 기판과의 사이에 액정층을 보유한 액정 표시 패널과,상기 제1 기판의 상기 액정층을 보유하는 면과는 반대의 외면에 설치된 제1 편광 제어 소자와,상기 제2 기판의 상기 액정층을 보유하는 면과는 반대의 외면에 설치된 제2 편광 제어 소자를 구비하고,상기 제1 편광 제어 소자 및 상기 제2 편광 제어 소자는, 상기 액정층에 타원 편광의 편광 상태를 갖는 광이 입사하도록, 이들을 통과하는 광의 편광 상태를 제어하고,또한, 상기 액정 표시 패널에 대하여 주시각 방향으로 입사하는 타원 편광의 타원율은 0.45 이상인 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제13항에 있어서,상기 제1 편광 제어 소자 및 상기 제2 편광 제어 소자의 각각은, 1개의 편광판과, 소정 파장의 광에 대하여 정상 광선과 이상 광선과의 사이에 1/4 파장의 위상차를 부여하는 1축성의 1/4 파장판으로 구성된 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제14항에 있어서,상기 제1 편광 제어 소자 및 상기 제2 편광 제어 소자에서는, 상기 편광판의 흡수축과 상기 위상차판의 지상축이 이루는 예각의 각도는, 25도 이상 70도 이하의 범위에 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
