Abstract
본 발명은, 식 R1R2R3N 또는 R1R2R3P(여기서, R1, R2및 R3은 바람직하게는 저급 및 고급 알킬 그룹이다)의 장애 아민 또는 포스핀과 블렌딩된, 할로메틸스티렌 유도 단위를 포함하는 C4-C7이소올레핀 공중합체의 열가소성 조성물에 관한 것이다. 생성된 이온상태로 회합된 아민- 또는 포스핀-개질된 엘라스토머는, 더욱 미세하게 분산된 엘라스토머를 함유하여 기계적 특성이 개선된 조성물을 생성하는 열가소성 엘라스토머 블렌드 조성물(동적으로 가황된 조성물을 포함함)을 제조하는데 사용된다.
Description
열가소성 엘라스토머는 일반적으로 통상의 열가소성 물질과 동일한 방식으로 가공되고 재생될 수 있는 중합체 또는 중합체의 블렌드로 정의되며, 또한 사용 온도(service temperature)에서 가황 고무와 유사한 특성 및 성능을 갖는다. 플라스틱과 엘라스토머 고무의 블렌드 또는 합금은 특히 다양한 분야에서 열경화성 고무를 대체하기 위한 고성능 열가소성 엘라스토머의 생산에 있어 점점 중요해지고 있다.

TPE 조성물을 제조하는데 유용한 특히 바람직한 엘라스토머 중합체는 적어도 할로메틸스티렌 유도 단위를 포함하는 할로겐화 랜덤 이소올레핀 공중합체이다.이 유형의 할로겐화 엘라스토머 공중합체(BIMS 중합체로 지칭됨) 및 그의 제조방법은 미국 특허 제 5,162,445 호에 개시되어 있다. 이들 공중합체를 함유하는 경화가능한 TPE 조성물은 다른 것들 중에서도 미국 특허 제 5,013,793 호 및 제 5,051,477 호에 기술되어 있다.

이러한 BIMS 중합체의 타고난 유동 활성화 및 전단 박화 특징으로 인해, 혼합 과정에서 직면하게 되는 증가된 온도 및 전단 속도에서의 이들 중합체의 점도값의 감소는, BIMS 중합체가 블렌딩되는 열가소성 성분의 점도의 감소보다 더욱 뚜렷해진다. 그러나, 혼합 및/또는 가공 과정에서 BIMS와 열가소성 성분간의 점도차를 최소화시키는 것은 우수한 블렌드의 기계적 특성에 있어 중요한 미세한 블렌드의 형태 및 균일한 혼합을 제공하는데 필수적이다.
발명의 요약
본 발명은, 할로겐화 엘라스토머 및 점도 증강제(예: 장애 아민 또는 포스핀)를 포함하는 조성물, 바람직하게는 열가소성 조성물에 관한 것이다. 본 발명의 한 실시양태에서, 할로겐화 엘라스토머는 할로메틸스티렌 유도 단위를 포함하는 C4내지 C7이소모노올레핀 공중합체이다. 상기 공중합체는 식 (R1R2R3)N 또는 (R1R2R3)P(여기서, R1는 H 또는 C1내지 C6알킬이고, R2는 C1내지 C30알킬이고, R3은 C4내지 C30알킬이되, R3은 R1보다 고급 알킬이다)를 갖는 하나 이상의 장애 아민 또는 포스핀 화합물과 혼합되며, 상기 혼합은 상기 장애 아민 또는 포스핀 화합물의 융점보다 높은 온도에서 수행된다. 상기 혼합은 균질한 블렌드를 생성시키는 방법으로 실시되는 것이 바람직하다.

본 발명은, 점도를 고전단 열 혼합 과정에서 함께 블렌딩되는 열가소성 물질의 점도에 더욱 근접하게 접근시키거나 일치시킴으로써 더욱 균일한 혼합을 촉진시키고 다른 매트릭스 중합체 시스템내에 더욱 미세하게 분산시키는, BIMS 공중합체의 점도를 향상시키는 신규한 방법에 관한 것이다.
본 발명은 향상된 점도를 갖는 할로겐화 엘라스토머, 및 이들 엘라스토머를 함유하는 열가소성 엘라스토머 조성물에 관한 것이다. 이들 열가소성 엘라스토머 조성물은, 적어도 할로메틸스티렌 유도 단위를 포함하는 이소올레핀 공중합체와, 하나 이상의 아민 또는 포스핀의 블렌드를 포함한다.

할로메틸스티렌 유도 단위를 포함하는 이소올레핀 공중합체

바람직하게는, 이들 작용화된 중합체는 실질적으로 균질한 조성 분포를 가져 95 중량% 이상의 중합체가 중합체의 평균p-알킬스티렌 함량의 10 % 이내인p-알킬스티렌 함량을 갖게 된다. 또한, 더욱 바람직한 중합체는 겔 투과 크로마토그래피에 의해 정의된 바와 같이, 5 미만, 더욱 바람직하게는 2.5 미만의 협소한 분자량분포(Mw/Mn), 200,000 내지 2,000,000의 바람직한 점도 평균 분자량, 및 25,000 내지 750,000의 바람직한 수 평균 분자량으로 특징지어진다.
공중합체는, 루이스 산 촉매를 사용하여 단량체 혼합물을 슬러리 중합시킨 후, 할로겐 및 라디칼 개시제(예: 열 및/또는 빛 및/또는 화학적 개시제)의 존재하에 용액중에서 할로겐화, 바람직하게는 브롬화하고, 그 다음 선택적으로는 상이한 작용 유도 단위로 브롬을 친전자성 치환시켜 제조될 수 있다.
바람직한 할로겐화 폴리(이소부틸렌-코-p-메틸스티렌)은 0.1 내지 5 중량%의 브로모메틸 그룹을 일반적으로 함유하는 브롬화 중합체이다. 추가의 또다른 실시양태에서, 브로모메틸 그룹의 양은 0.2 내지 2.5 중량%이다. 다르게 표현하면, 바람직한 공중합체는 중합체 중량에 기초하여 0.05 내지 2.5 몰%의 브롬, 더욱 바람직하게는 0.1 내지 1.25 몰%의 브롬을 함유하며, 중합체 주쇄중에 고리 할로겐 또는 할로겐을 실질적으로 함유하지 않는다. 본 발명의 한 실시양태에서, 상호중합체는 C4내지 C7이소모노올레핀 유도 단위,p-메틸스티렌 유도 단위 및p-할로메틸스티렌 유도 단위의 공중합체이되, 상기p-할로메틸스티렌 단위는 상호중합체에 기초하여 0.4 내지 1 몰%가 상호중합체중에 존재한다. 또다른 실시양태에서,p-할로메틸스티렌은p-브로모메틸스티렌이다. 무니 점도(Mooney Viscosity)(1+8, 125℃, ASTM D1646, 개정됨)는 30 내지 60 MU이다.
아민/포스핀 성분
아민 또는 포스핀이 BIMS 물질내에 균일하게 분산되기에 충분한 시간으로 아민 또는 포스핀의 융점보다 높은 온도에서, 통상적으로는 1 내지 10분으로, 바람직하게는 100 내지 180 ℃에서, 전단 조건하에 BIMS 공중합체를 적절한 장애 아민 또는 포스핀 화합물(또는 "점도 증강제")과 혼합시켜 BIMS 공중합체의 점도를 향상시킨다.
사용될 수 있는 적합한 바람직한 점도 증강제는 식 (R1R2R3)Q[여기서, Q는 15족 원소, 바람직하게는 질소 또는 인이고, R3은 C10내지 C20알킬이고, R1및 R2는 동일하거나 상이한 저급 알킬이고, 더욱 바람직하게는 C1내지 C6알킬이다]로 표시되는 화합물을 포함한다. 사용될 수 있는 바람직한 장애 아민/포스핀 화합물은 상기 식 (R1R2R3)N의 3차 아민을 포함한다. 특히 바람직한 아민으로는 데실디메틸 아민, 헥사데실디메틸아민, 수소화 탈로우알킬 디메틸아민, 이수소화 탈로우알킬메틸 아민 등이 있다.
또한, 식 (R1R2R3)P의 바람직한 장애 포스핀 화합물은, R3가 C10내지 C20알킬이고, R1및 R2가 동일하거나 상이한 저급 알킬이고, 더욱 바람직하게는 C1내지 C6알킬인 화합물이다. 이들 포스핀은 상기 열거된 아민과 유사하다.
BIMS 공중합체내에 혼입되는 아민 또는 포스핀의 양은, 조성물의 점도가 향상될(소정의 전단 속도 및 온도에서 증가될) 만큼 충분해야 한다. 생성된 조성물은 "아민 또는 포스핀/공중합체" 조성물, "점도 증강제/공중합체" 조성물, 또는 "아민 또는 포스핀/BIMS" 조성물로서 다양하게 지칭될 수 있다. 한 실시양태에서,점도 증강제/BIMS 조성물의 점도값은 220 ℃ 및 100 1/초의 전단 속도에서 1300 Paㆍs이상이고, 다른 실시양태에서 220 ℃ 및 100 1/초의 전단 속도에서 1300 내지 6000 Paㆍs이고, 또다른 실시양태에서는 220 ℃ 및 100 1/초의 전단 속도에서 1400 내지 5000 Paㆍs이다. 또다른 실시양태에서, 점도 증강제/BIMS 조성물의 점도값은 220 ℃ 및 1000 1/초의 전단 속도에서 200 Paㆍs이상이고, 또다른 실시양태에서 상기 값은 220 ℃ 및 1000 1/초의 전단 속도에서 200 내지 600 Paㆍs이고, 또다른 실시양태에서는 220 ℃ 및 1000 1/초의 전단 속도에서 220 내지 550 Paㆍs이다. 일반적으로, BIMS의 할로겐 당 0.05 내지 2 몰 당량, 더욱 바람직하게는 0.1 내지 1 몰 당량의 아민 또는 포스핀이면 충분하다.
한 실시양태에서, 본 발명의 점도 증강제/BIMS 조성물인 아민/BIMS는 실질적으로 용매가 존재하지 않는 상태에서 생성된다. 더욱 구체적으로는, 아민 및 BIMS 성분은 유기 용매의 첨가없이 당해 분야의 숙련자에 공지된 기법에 의해 블렌딩된다. 용매, 특히 유기 용매는 실질적으로 조성물내에 또는 성분들을 블렌딩시키는 과정에서 존재하지 않는다. "실질적으로 존재하지 않는"이란, 전체 조성물의 중량에 대해 5 중량% 미만, 또다른 실시양태에서는 2 중량% 미만의 용매가 존재함을 의미한다.
본 발명의 개질된 BIMS 중합체는 미국 특허 제 5,162,445 호 또는 WO 9410214 호에 개시되어 있는 이오노머와 구별된다. 이들 참고문헌에서 제조된 물질들은, BIMS 중합체내에 존재하는 벤질 할로겐이 치환됨으로써 중합체가 이온 아민 또는 포스핀 작용기를 갖는 이오노머로 전환되는 유기 용매중에서 수행된 친핵치환 반응을 수반한다. 이 발명에 따라 제조된 물질은, 중합체 쇄중의 어떠한 할로겐도 치환되지 않은 채 이온상태로 회합된 중합체일 것으로 여겨진다. 이 이온 회합은 출발 BIMS 중합체에 비해 증가된 점도를 갖는 개질된 중합체를 제공한다.
열가소성 중합체
본 발명의 향상된 점도의 이소올레핀 공중합체는 열가소성 물질과 블렌딩하는데 유용하다. 본 발명에서 사용하기에 적합한 열가소성 중합체는, 폴리올레핀, 폴리아미드, 폴리이미드, 폴리에스테르, 폴리카보네이트, 폴리설폰, 폴리락톤, 폴리아세탈, 아크릴로니트릴/부타디엔/스티렌 공중합체 수지, 폴리페닐렌 옥사이드, 에틸렌-카본 모노옥사이드 공중합체, 폴리페닐렌 설파이드, 폴리스티렌, 스티렌/아크릴로니트릴 공중합체 수지, 스티렌/말레산 무수물 공중합체 수지, 방향족 폴리케톤 및 그의 혼합물로부터 선택된 비결정질, 부분 결정질 또는 본질적으로 전체 결정질인 중합체를 포함한다. 이들 및 다른 열가소성 물질은 예컨대 미국 특허 제 6,013,727 호에 개시되어 있다.
본 발명의 조성물중에 사용되는 적합한 폴리올레핀은, 지글러/나타형 촉매 또는 메탈로센 촉매와 같은 단일-부위 촉매를 사용하여 제조된 중합체를 비롯하여, 열가소성이고 적어도 부분적으로는 결정질인 폴리올레핀 단독중합체 및 공중합체를 포함한다. 이들은 에틸렌, 프로필렌, 1-부텐, 이소부틸렌, 1-펜텐과 같은 탄소수 2 내지 6의 모노올레핀 단량체, 이들 단량체를 함유하는 공중합체 등으로부터 바람직하게 제조되며, 바람직한 단량체는 프로필렌이다. 본 명세서 및 청구의 범위에서 사용된 바와 같이, 폴리프로필렌이란 용어는 프로필렌의 단독중합체뿐 아니라 1내지 20 중량%의 에틸렌 또는 탄소수 4 내지 16의 α-올레핀 공단량체 또는 그의 혼합물을 함유할 수 있는 프로필렌의 반응기 공중합체를 포함한다. 상기 폴리프로필렌은, 통상적으로는 협소한 범위의 유리 전이 온도(Tg)를 갖는 고도 결정질의 이소택틱 또는 신디오택틱 폴리프로필렌일 수 있다. 상업적으로 입수가능한 폴리올레핀이 본 발명의 실행에 사용될 수 있다.
"폴리프로필렌"이란 용어는 프로필렌의 단독중합체뿐 아니라 1 내지 20 중량%의 에틸렌 유도 단위 또는 다른 탄소수 4 내지 6의 α-올레핀 공단량체 유도 단위를 함유할 수 있는 프로필렌의 반응기 공중합체를 포함한다. 상기 폴리프로필렌은 고도 결정질의 이소택틱 또는 신디오택틱 폴리프로필렌일 수 있다. 상기 반응기 공중합체는 랜덤 또는 블록 공중합체일 수 있다. 다른 적합한 열가소성 폴리올레핀 수지로는 고밀도 폴리에틸렌(high density polyethylene, HDPE), 저밀도 폴리에틸렌(low density polyethylene, LDPE), 선형 저밀도 폴리에틸렌(linear low density polyethylene, LLDPE), 초저밀도 폴리에틸렌(very low density polyethylene, VLDPE), 에틸렌 공중합체 수지, 에틸렌과 1-알켄의 가소성 공중합체, 폴리부텐, 및 그의 혼합물이 포함된다.
적합한 열가소성 폴리아미드(나일론)는 중합체 쇄내에 순환(recurring) 아미드 단위를 갖는 공중합체 및 삼원공중합체를 비롯한 결정질 또는 수지의 고분자 고체 중합체를 포함한다. 폴리아미드는 카프로락탐, 피롤리디논, 라우릴락탐 및 아미노운데카노산 락탐과 같은 하나 이상의 엡실론(epsilon) 락탐, 또는 아미노산을 중합시키거나, 이염기산 및 디아민을 축합시켜 제조할 수 있다. 섬유-형성 및 몰딩 등급의 나일론 둘다 적합하다. 이러한 폴리아미드의 예로는 폴리카프로락탐(나일론-6), 폴리라우릴락탐(나일론-12), 폴리헥사메틸렌아디프아미드(나일론-6,6), 폴리헥사메틸렌아젤아미드(나일론-6,9), 폴리헥사메틸렌세박아미드(나일론-6,10), 폴리헥사메틸렌이소프탈아미드(나일론-6,IP) 및 11-아미노-운데카노산의 축합 생성물(나일론 11)이 있다. 상업적으로 입수가능한 열가소성 폴리아미드는 본 발명의 실행에서 유리하게 사용될 수 있으며, 160 내지 230 ℃의 연화점 또는 융점을 갖는 선형 결정질 폴리아미드가 바람직하다.
사용될 수 있는 적합한 열가소성 폴리에스테르는, 지방족 또는 방향족 폴리카복시산 에스테르의 무수물 또는 그의 혼합물과, 디올 또는 그의 혼합물의 중합체 반응 생성물을 포함한다. 만족스런 폴리에스테르의 예로는 폴리(트랜스-1,4-사이클로헥실렌), 폴리(C2내지 C6알칸 비카복실레이트), 예컨대 폴리(트랜스-1,4-사이클로헥실렌 숙시네이트) 및 폴리(트랜스-1,4-사이클로헥실렌 아디페이트); 폴리(시스- 또는 트랜스-1,4-사이클로헥산디메틸렌)알칸디카복실레이트, 예컨대 폴리(시스-1,4-사이클로헥산-디-메틸렌)옥실레이트 및 폴리(시스-1,4-사이클로헥산-디-메틸렌)숙시네이트, 폴리(C2내지 C4알킬렌 테레프탈레이트), 예컨대 폴리에틸렌 테레프탈레이트 및 폴리테트라메틸렌-테레프탈레이트, 폴리(C2내지 C4알킬렌 이소프탈레이트), 예컨대 폴리에틸렌이소프탈레이트 및 폴리테트라메틸렌-이소프탈레이트 및 유사 물질이 포함된다. 바람직한 폴리에스테르는 방향족 디카복시산, 예컨대 나프탈렌산 또는 오프탈므산(ophtalmic acid) 및C2내지 C4디올, 예컨대 폴리에틸렌 테레프탈레이트 및 폴리부틸렌 테레프탈레이트로부터 유도된다. 바람직한 폴리에스테르는 160 내지 260 ℃의 융점을 가질 것이다.
이 발명에 따라 사용될 수 있는 폴리(페닐렌 에테르)(Poly(phenylene ether), PPE) 열가소성 합성수지는, 알킬-치환된 페놀의 산화 커플링 중합에 의해 제조된 상업적으로 입수가능한 잘 공지된 물질이다. 일반적으로, 이들은 190 내지 235 ℃의 유리 전이 온도를 갖는 선형 중합체이다. 바람직한 PPE 중합체의 예로는 폴리(2,6-디알킬-1,4-페닐렌 에테르), 예컨대 폴리(2,6-디메틸-1,4-페닐렌 에테르), 폴리(2-메틸-6-에틸-1,4-페닐렌 에테르), 폴리(2,6-디프로필-1,4-페닐렌 에테르) 및 폴리(2-에틸-6-프로필-1,4-페닐렌 에테르)가 포함된다. 이들 중합체, 그의 제조방법 및 폴리스티렌과의 블렌드는 미국 특허 제 3,383,435 호에 추가로 기술되어 있다.
사용될 수 있는 다른 열가소성 수지는, 분절화된 폴리(에테르 코-프탈레이트)와 같이 상기 폴리에스테르의 폴리카보네이트 유사물; 폴리카프로락톤 중합체; 스티렌과 50 몰% 미만의 아크릴로니트릴의 공중합체(SAN), 스티렌, 아크릴로니트릴 및 부타디엔의 수지성 공중합체(ABS)와 같은 스티렌 수지; 폴리페닐 설폰과 같은 설폰 중합체가 당해 분야에 공지된 바와 같은 유사 합성수지를 포함한다.
첨가제
본 발명의 조성물은 가소화제, 경화제를 포함할 수 있으며, 또한 보강용 및비보강용 충전재, 항산화제, 안정화제, 고무 가공 오일, 가소화제, 증량유(extender oil), 윤활제, 블록방지제, 대전방지제, 왁스, 발포제, 안료, 난/연제 및 고무 배합 분야에 공지되어 있는 기타 가공용 조제를 포함할 수 있다. 이러한 첨가제는 전체 조성물의 50 중량% 이하를 이룰 수 있다. 사용될 수 있는 충전재 또는 증량제는 칼슘 카보네이트, 점토, 실리타, 활석, 티타늄 옥사이드, 카본블랙 등의 통상의 무기물을 포함한다. 일반적으로, 상기 고무 가공 오일은 석유 분획물로부터 유도된 파라핀, 나프텐 또는 방향족 오일이며, 파라핀 오일이 바람직하다. 상기 유형은 통상적으로 조성물중에 존재하는 특정 고무(들)와 결합되어 사용되고, 전체 고무 함량에 기초한 양은 고무 100 당(per hundred rubber, phr) 0부터 1 내지 200 중량부일 수 있다. 또한, 트리멜리테이트 에스테르와 같은 가소화제가 조성물중에 존재할 수 있다.
또한, 당해 분야 및 문헌에 공지되어 있는 다양한 페놀 수지뿐 아니라, 문헌 "The Chemistry of Phenol-Formaldehyde Resin Vulcanization of EPDM: Part I. Evidence for Methylene Crosslinks" byMartin Van Duin and Aniko Soupthanhong, 68 RUBBER CHEMISTRY AND TECHNOLOGY 717-727(1995)"에 개시된 바와 같은 다양한 페놀-포름알데하이드 수지가 사용될 수 있다.
본 발명의 경화제는 금속 또는 금속 리간드 착체, 촉진제, 수지, 또는 엘라스토머의 경화에 영향을 주는 당해 분야에 공지된 다른 성분과 같은 임의의 수의 성분을 포함할 수 있다. 그의 넓은 실시양태에서, 경화제는 적어도 2 내지 14족 산화 금속 또는 금속 리간드 착체이되, 여기서 하나 이상의 리간드는 유도화합물(inducer compound)과의 치환 반응이 실시될 수 있다. 한 실시양태에서, 하나 이상의 경화제는 산화 아연, 수화 석회, 산화 마그네슘, 알칼리 카보네이트 및 하이드록사이드를 포함하는 산화 금속이다. 특히, 하기 금속계 경화제는 본 발명에서 작용할 수 있는 통상의 경화제이다: ZnO, CaO, MgO, Al2O3, CrO3, FeO, Fe2O3및 NiO 및/또는 이들 금속의 카복실레이트. 이들 산화 금속은 상응하는 금속 카복실레이트 착체, 또는 카복실레이트 리간드와, 황 화합물이나 또는 알킬퍼옥사이드 화합물과 함께 사용될 수 있다. 일반적으로, 경화제의 양은 당해 분야에 잘 인식되어 있는 바와 같이 사용 유형 특히 목적하는 경화도에 따라 변할 것이다. 예컨대, 황의 양은 조성물의 100중량부를 기준으로 1 내지 5 중량부, 바람직하게는 2 내지 3 중량부이다. 과산화물 경화제의 양은 일반적으로 0.1 내지 2.0 중량부이고, 페놀 경화 수지의 양은 일반적으로 2 내지 10 중량부이고, 장애 아민의 양은 0.1 내지 2 중량부이며, 상기 모두는 조성물 100 중량%를 기준으로 한다.
본 발명의 한 실시양태에서, 경화제는 조성물의 0.5 내지 20 phr이 존재할 수 있으며, 다른 실시양태에서는 1 내지 10 phr이 존재할 수 있다. 또다른 실시양태에서, 경화제는 조성물중에 실질적으로 존재하지 않는다. "실질적으로 존재하지 않는"이란, 페놀 수지, 황, 과산화물, 금속 및 금속 산화물, 금속-리간드 착체와 같은 전형적인 경화제가 조성물중에 존재하지 않는 것을 의미한다.
가공
일반적으로, 열가소성 엘라스토머의 BIMS 성분은, 플라스틱에 대한 고무의 양, 및 고무의 경화 시스템 또는 경화도에 따라 공-연속(co-continuous) 형태 또는 상 반전이 가능할 지라도, 연속 플라스틱 매트릭스내의 작은, 즉 마이크로 크기의 입자로서 존재한다. 바람직하게, 상기 고무는 적어도 부분적으로 가교결합되어 있으며, 최종 가황된 열가소성 조성물중에 완벽히 또는 완전히 가교결합된 것이 바람직하다. 부분 또는 완벽한 가교결합은 적절한 고무 경화제를 열가소성 중합체와 고무의 블렌드에 첨가하고 통상의 가황 조건하에서 고무를 목적하는 정도로 가황시킴으로써 달성할 수 있다. 그러나, 고무는 동적 가황 방법에 의해 가교결합된 것이 바람직하다.
동적 가황은, 통상의 혼합 장비, 예컨대 롤 밀(roll mill), 반부리(Banbury,상표명) 혼합기, 브라벤더(Brabender, 상표명) 혼합기, 연속 혼합기, 혼합 압출기 등에서 상승된 온도에서 열가소성 엘라스토머 성분들을 혼합하여 실시된다. 동적으로 경화된 조성물의 독특한 특징은, 고무 성분이 부분적으로나 완전히 경화된다는 사실에도 불구하고 조성물이 압출, 사출 성형, 중공 성형 및 압축 성형과 같은 통상의 플라스틱 가공 기법에 의해 가공되고 재가공될 수 있다는 것이다. 스크랩(scrap) 또는 플래슁(flashing)은 회수되어 재가공될 수 있다.
당해 분야의 숙련자들은 BIMS 고무의 가황을 수행하는데 필요한 적절한 양, 경화 시스템의 유형 및 가황 조건을 인식할 것이다. 고무는 목적하는 최적의 가교결합을 얻도록 경화제의 양, 경화 온도, 경화 시간을 변화시켜 가황될 수 있다. 고무에 대한 임의의 공지된 경화 시스템은 가황 조건하에서 적합하는 한 사용되는 특정 BIMS 고무 및 열가소성 성분과 함께 사용될 수 있다. 이들 경화제는, 촉진제 또는 협조제(co-agent)를 사용하거나 사용하지 않는 모든 조건하에서, 플라티늄 또는 과산화물 촉매를 함유하는, 황, 황 도너(donor), 산화 금속, 수지 시스템, 과산화물계 시스템, 하이드로실화(hydrosilation) 경화제 등을 포함한다. 이러한 경화 시스템은 엘라스토머의 가황에 대한 문헌 및 당해 분야에 잘 공지되어 있다.
목적하는 용도에 따라, 조성물중에 존재하는 고무의 양은 조성물의 전체 중합체 함량의 10 내지 90 중량%일 수 있다. 대부분의 용도 및 특히 고무 성분이 동적으로 가황되는 경우, 고무 성분은 조성물의 전체 중량체 함량의 70 중량% 미만, 더욱 바람직하게는 50 중량% 미만, 가장 바람직하게는 10 내지 40 중량%를 구성할 것이다.
일반적으로, TPE 조성물의 용융 가공 온도는 TPE 조성물중에 존재하는 가장 높은 융점의 중합체의 융점보다 높은 온도로부터 300 ℃까지가 될 것이다. 바람직한 가공 온도는 140 내지 260 ℃이고, 다른 실시양태에서는 150 내지 240 ℃이고, 또다른 실시양태에서는 170 내지 220 ℃일 것이다.
장애 아민 또는 포스핀 화합물은, 혼합 단계, 즉 BIMS와 열가소성 중합체의 초기 혼합 단계, 또는 동적으로 가황된 조성물의 제조시 경화제 또는 다른 첨가제가 혼합되는 단계에서 BIMS 고무 성분과 조합될 수 있다. 그러나, 바람직한 실시양태에서, 장애 아민 또는 포스핀 물질은 300 ℃ 이하의 온도에서 우선 BIMS 중합체와 배합되어 점도가 증가된 개질된 BIMS 중합체를 수득한 후, 상기 개질된 중합체는 TPE 조성물중에 존재하는 임의의 다른 첨가제 및 열가소성 수지와 블렌딩된다.
본 발명의 열가소성 조성물은 아민 또는 포스핀, 이소올레핀 공중합체 및 열가소성 물질을 임의의 순서대로 혼합시킴으로써 생성된다. 한 실시양태에서, 상기 공중합체는 우선 아민 또는 포스핀과 혼합되어 아민 또는 포스핀/공중합체 조성물을 형성한 후, 열가소성 물질과 혼합된다. 또다른 실시양태에서는 상기 3개의 성분이 동시에 혼합된다. 또한, 본 발명의 한 실시양태에서의 열가소성 조성물은 실질적으로 용매가 존재하지 않는 상태에서 제조된다. 더욱 구체적으로는, 아민 및 BIMS 성분은 유기 용매를 첨가하지 않으면서 당해 분야의 숙련자에게 공지된 기법에 의해 블렌딩된다. 또한, 이와 같이 형성된 아민 또는 포스핀/공중합체 조성물은 용매가 존재하지 않는 상태에서 열가소성 물질과 혼합될 수 있다. 용매, 특히유기 용매, 예컨대 헥산, 염화메틸렌, 및 폴리올레핀 나일론 및 할로겐화 엘라스토머를 용해시키는데 공지된 기타 용매는, 조성물중에 또는 성분들의 블렌딩 과정에서 실질적으로 존재하지 않는다. "실질적으로 존재하지 않는"이란 전체 조성물의 5 중량% 미만의 용매가 존재함을 의미한다.
본 발명의 열가소성 조성물은 10 내지 90 중량%의 열가소성 물질, 및 90 내지 10 중량%의 이소올레핀 공중합체를 포함할 수 있다. 또다른 실시양태에서, 본 발명의 열가소성 조성물은 20 내지 80 중량%의 열가소성 물질, 및 80 내지 20 중량%의 이소올레핀 공중합체를 포함할 수 있다. 또다른 실시양태에서, 본 발명의 열가소성 조성물은 40 내지 60 중량%의 열가소성 물질, 및 60 내지 40 중량%의 이소올레핀 공중합체를 포함한다. 한 실시양태에서, 가황된 열가소성 조성물은 1000 psi 이상의 인장 강인도를 가지며, 다른 실시양태에서 이는 2000 psi 이상이다(하기에서와 같이 ASTM D1708). 가황된 열가소성 조성물은 한 실시양태에서 200 % 이상, 또다른 실시양태에서 300 % 이상의 파단 변형율값을 갖는다(하기에서와 같이 ASTM D1708).
하기 실시예는 본 발명을 예시하기 위한 것이다. 실시예에서 사용된 물질들은 표 1에 제시되어 있다.
실시예 1
이 실시예는 브롬화 폴리(이소부틸렌-코-p-메틸스티렌)의 점도의 감소를 예시한 것이다(표 1에서의 BIMS 1, 2 및 3으로 규명됨). 220 ℃에서 모세관 레오미터(capillary rheometer)를 사용하여 50 내지 5,000 초-1의 전단 속도를 각 고무의 시료에 가하였다. 후속적으로, 점도 데이터는 입구 압력 및 비-뉴턴 유동 프로파일에 대해 교정하였다. 100, 500, 1000 및 1500 초-1에서의 점도값만이 비교용으로 제시되고 있다. 표 2는 이들 고무 각각에 대한 증가된 전단 속도의 함수로서 점도의 급감을 제시하고 있다.
실시예 2
3차 아민 모두, DM16D, DMHTD 및 M2HT를 150 ℃에서 60 rpm으로 작동하는 브라벤더(상표명) 혼합기에 의해 BIMS 2내로 블렌딩하였다. BIMS중의 브롬 함량에 그와 등몰인 아민을 첨가하였다. 표 3에 제시된 바와 같이, DM16D를 첨가함으로써, 220 ℃의 BIMS의 모든 전단 속도에서의 점도값이 증가될 수 있었다.
표 4에 입증된 바와 같이, BIMS중에 DM16D의 3차 아민이 존재하면 BIMS의 어떠한 열 분해도 야기되지 않는다. 각 온도에서의 DM16D-첨가된 BIMS의 점도값은 100 내지 250 ℃에서의 열 순환 과정에서 비교적 변하지 않고 있다.
3차-아민-개질된 BIMS에서의 점도값은 아민의 구조에 따라 향상된다. 표 5의 데이터를 표 3의 데이터와 비교해 보면, DM16D의 헥사데실-디메틸아민의 점도는 DMHTD에 비해 더욱 향상되며, 이는 디메틸로서, DM16D의 경우 C16R3그룹에 비해 C18R3그룹이 우세적인 것이다. 이수소화 탈로우알킬-메틸아민이고 C18을 주로 갖는 알킬 그룹으로서 R2및 R3그룹 둘다를 갖는 M2HT의 경우(표 6을 참조함), 점도는 DM16D를 첨가함으로써 제공된 점도에 비해 덜 현저하게 향상되어진다.
실시예 3
0.5 몰 당량의 DM16D로 개질된 40 중량%의 BIMS 2 및 60 중량%의 MFR 1.5 폴리프로필렌(엑손모빌(ExxonMobil) PP4292)으로 구성된 블렌드를, 5분 동안 220 ℃에서 80 RPM으로 브라벤더(상표명) 혼합기를 사용하여 성분들을 혼합하여 제조하였다.
BIMS 2가 아민-개질되지 않은 것을 제외하고는 동일한 대조용 블렌드를 제조하였다(대조용). 생성된 블렌드의 형태를 AFM(원자력 현미경, Atomic Force Microscopy)에 의해 검사한 후, 이미지 프로세싱하여 수 평균 등가 지름의 측면에서 분산 크기를 측정하였다. 모든 표본은 표본 이완을 방지하기 위해 저온정면절삭한(cryofacing) 후 8시간 이내에 분석되었다. 저온정면절삭 과정에서, 표본을 -150 ℃로 냉각시키고, 라이체르트 급냉동 마이크로톰(Reichert cryogenic microtome)에서 다이아몬드 칼로 절삭하였다. 그 다음, 무수 질소 기체를 흘려주면서 해부기(dissector) 안에 보관하여 응축물을 형성시키지 않으면서 주위 온도로 가온시켰다. 최종적으로, 정면절삭된 표본을 AFM 분석을 위해 미니어처 스틸 바이스(miniature steel vice)에 장착하였다. AFM 측정을, 나노스코프 디멘전 3000 주사 탐침 현미경(NanoScope Dimension 3000 scanning probe microscope)(디지털 기기) 상에서 공기 중에서 직사각형의 Si 칸틸레버(cantilever)를 사용하여 수행하였다. 모든 표본의 AFM 상 이미지는 TIFF 포맷으로 전환시키고, 포토샵(PHOTOSHOP, 상표명)(아도베 시스템즈 인코포레이티드(Adobe Systems, Inc.))을 사용하여 프로세싱하였다. 이미지 프로세싱 도구 키트(라인디어 게임스 인코포레이티드(Reindeer Games, Inc.))를 이미지 측정에 적용하였다. 이미지 측정의 결과를 엑셀(EXCEL, 상표명)을 사용하여 후속적인 데이터 처리를 위해 텍스트 파일로 기록하였다. 결과는 표 7에 제시되어 있다. 이들 결과는 분산된 BIMS 고무가 대조용에 비해 거의 30 %의 크기 감소를 나타낸다.
하기 실시예에서, 추가의 열가소성 블렌드 또는 이온상태로 연결된 합금(ionically linked alloy, ILA) 조성물은 3차 아민의 농도를 변화시키면서 제조하고, 그의 기계적 특성을 3차 아민 첨가제를 함유하지 않은 대조용 시료와 비교하여 평가하였다. 이들 블렌드중에 사용된 열가소성 중합체는 엑손모빌 케미칼 캄파니(ExxonMobil Chemical Co.)로부터 입수가능한 2.8 MFR 폴리프로필렌인 폴리프로필렌(polypropylene, PP) PP4722이다.
실시예 4
열가소성 물질과 엘라스토머의 블렌드의 첨가시 3차 아민을 파라핀 광유로 희석시켰다. PP/BIMS의 블렌드를 190 ℃에서 60 rpm의 회전 속도로 브라벤더 혼합기에서 혼합하였다. PP 펠렛을 우선 이르가녹스(Irganox) 1076과 같은 적합한 안정화제의 존재하에 용융시켰다. 엘라스토머 및 이어서 오일-희석된 아르멘(Armeen) DM16D를 첨가하였다. 마지막 단계에서, 또한 산화 금속(예: MgO)을 산 수용체로서 작용하는 블렌드중에 첨가하였다. 40/60 비율의 열가소성 물질/엘라스토머 블렌드와의 수개의 ILA 조성물은 표 8에 제시되어 있다(수치는 중량부로 표현된다). 본 발명의 조성물(b)의 경우, 브롬 및 아민 그룹에서는 정확한 화학양론적 대응치가 채택된 반면, 본 발명의 조성물(a 및 c)의 경우에는 브롬 그룹보다 많고 적은 아민이 각각 존재한다.
표 8의 각각의 ILA 조성물을 190 ℃에서 15분 동안 압축-성형시켜 두께가 약 0.08 인치인 패드를 제조하였다. (시험에 앞서 48시간 동안 주위 조건하에서 보관된) 이들 성형된 패드에 대한 인장 응력-변형 측정을 수행하였다. 마이크로-덤벨(micro-dumbbell) 표본(ASTM D1708)을 사용하였다[시험 온도 25 ℃, 인스트론 크로스-헤드(Instron cross-head) 속도 2 인치/분]. 표 8에 제시된 바와 같이, PP/BIMS/오일 블렌드(10 phr 오일을 함유하는 본 발명에 따른 실시예 (a) 내지 (c))중의 이온 회합(inoic association)의 혼입은, 대조예에 비해 파단 변형율, 파단 지점 부근에서의 최대 응력, 및 (응력-변형 곡선 아래의 면적으로서 정의된) 인장 강인도를 상당히 증가시킨다.
실시예 5
30/70 비율의 열가소성 물질/엘라스토머 블렌드와의 다른 ILA 조성물은 표 9에 제시되어 있다(수치는 중량부로 표현된다). 10 phr 및 20 phr 오일을 각각 함유하는 본 발명에 따른 조성물(d 및 e)의 경우, 브롬 및 아민 그룹에서는 정확한 화학양론적 대응치가 채택되었다. 여기서, 또 한편으로는 PP/BIMS/오일 블렌드(10 phr 또는 20 phr 오일)중의 이온 회합의 혼입은, 대조군에 비해 파단 변형율, 파단 지점 부근에서의 최대 응력, 및 인장 강인도를 상당히 증가시킨다는 것을 주목할수 있다.

Claims (33)
- 식 R1R2R3N 또는 R1R2R3P(여기서, R1은 H 또는 C1내지 C6알킬이고, R2는 C1내지 C30알킬이고, R3은 C4내지 C30알킬이되, R3은 R1보다 고급 알킬이다)를 갖는 하나 이상의 장애 아민 또는 포스핀 화합물과 혼합된 할로메틸스티렌 유도 단위를 포함하는 하나 이상의 이소올레핀 공중합체, 및 열가소성 물질을 포함하는 열가소성 조성물.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,열가소성 물질을 첨가하기 전에 이소올레핀 공중합체 및 아민 또는 포스핀을 혼합하되, 상기 혼합을 상기 장애 아민 또는 포스핀 화합물의 융점보다 높은 온도에서 실시하는 조성물.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,열가소성 물질이 조성물의 10 내지 90 중량%를 이루는 조성물.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,열가소성 물질이 폴리올레핀, 폴리아미드, 폴리이미드, 폴리에스테르, 폴리카보네이트, 폴리설폰, 폴리락톤, 폴리아세탈, 아크릴로니트릴/부타디엔/스티렌 공중합체 수지, 폴리페닐렌 옥사이드, 에틸렌-카본 모노옥사이드 공중합체, 폴리페닐렌 설파이드, 폴리스티렌, 스티렌/아크릴로니트릴 공중합체 수지, 스티렌/말레산 무수물 공중합체 수지, 방향족 폴리케톤 및 그의 혼합물로부터 선택되는 조성물.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,경화제가 실질적으로 존재하지 않는 조성물.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,R3이 C10내지 C20알킬인 조성물.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 장애 화합물이 3차 아민이고 R3이 C10내지 C20알킬인 조성물.
- 제 3 항에 있어서,R1및 R2가 각각 메틸인 조성물.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,할로겐당 0.05 내지 2 몰의 아민 또는 포스핀을 함유하는 조성물.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,이소올레핀 공중합체가 할로겐화 폴리(이소부틸렌-코-p-메틸스티렌)인 조성물.
- 제 7 항에 있어서,가황된 열가소성 조성물이 200 % 이상의 파단 변형율값을 갖는 조성물.
- 제 7 항에 있어서,가황된 열가소성 조성물이 1000 psi 이상의 인장 강인도를 갖는 조성물.
- 할로메틸스티렌 유도 단위를 포함하는 하나 이상의 이소올레핀 공중합체; 식 R1R2R3N 또는 R1R2R3P(여기서, R1은 H 또는 C1내지 C6알킬이고, R2는 C1내지 C30알킬이고, R3은 C4내지 C30알킬이되, R3은 R1보다 고급 알킬이다)를 갖는 하나 이상의 장애 아민 또는 포스핀 화합물; 및 열가소성 물질을 혼합시키고, 열가소성 조성물을 회수함을 포함하는 열가소성 조성물의 제조방법.
- 제 13 항에 있어서,상기 혼합을 150 내지 240 ℃에서 실시하는 방법.
- 제 13 항에 있어서,열가소성 물질이 조성물의 10 내지 90 중량%를 이루는 방법.
- 제 13 항에 있어서,열가소성 물질이 폴리올레핀, 폴리아미드, 폴리이미드, 폴리에스테르, 폴리카보네이트, 폴리설폰, 폴리락톤, 폴리아세탈, 아크릴로니트릴/부타디엔/스티렌 공중합체 수지, 폴리페닐렌 옥사이드, 에틸렌-카본 모노옥사이드 공중합체, 폴리페닐렌 설파이드, 폴리스티렌, 스티렌/아크릴로니트릴 공중합체 수지, 스티렌/말레산 무수물 공중합체 수지, 방향족 폴리케톤 및 그의 혼합물로부터 선택되는 방법.
