- 액정 셀, 및 상기 액정 셀의 양면에 배치된 원편광판을 포함하는 수직 배향 방식(vertical alignment mode; VA 방식)의 액정 표시 장치로서,상기 원편광판은, 각각 적층 1/4 파장판, 및 상기 적층 1/4 파장판 위에 적층된 편광판을 포함하고,상기 적층 1/4 파장판은, 1/4 파장판, 및 상기 1/4 파장판 위에 면내의 지상축 방향이 서로 교차되도록 적층된 1/2 파장판을 포함하고,상기 1/4 파장판 및 상기 1/2 파장판은, 면내의 주굴절률을 nx, ny, 두께 방향의 굴절률을 nz라 할 때 Nz=(nx-nz)/(nx-ny)> 1.05의 관계를 만족하는VA 방식의 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 3 항에 있어서,상기 원편광판 중 적어도 하나의 일면 또는 양면에 제공된 감압성 접착제층을 추가로 포함하는 VA 방식의 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 3 항에 있어서,상기 1/4 파장판이 노르보르넨을 포함하고, 상기 1/2 파장판이 노르보르넨을 포함하는 VA 방식의 액정 표시 장치.
