- (a) 한 쌍의 기판과, 상기 한 쌍의 기판 중 어느 일측에 형성되는 투명 전극과, 상기 한 쌍의 기판의 다른 일측에 형성된 반사전극과, 상기 한 쌍의 기판에 협지되는 액정층을 갖춘 액정 라이트 밸브와, 위상차판을 갖춘 액정 표시 소자와, (b) 광원과, (c) 편광 광학 소자를 가지는 액정 표시 장치에 있어서,상기 액정 라이트 밸브와 상기 광원과의 사이에 상기 위상차판과 상기 편광 광학 소자가 배치되고, 상기 위상차판의 광학축과 상기 편광 광학 소자의 편광축이 어긋나서 배치되고,상기 액정층은 트위스트 네마틱 배향의 액정층이고,상기 액정 표시 소자에 있어서의 상기 액정층의 트위스트 각도가 50도에서 90도의 범위내이고, 상기 위상차판의 광학축과 상기 편광 광학 소자의 편광축이 이루는 각도의 절대치가 0도보다 크고 10도 이하인 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- (a) 한 쌍의 기판과, 상기 한 쌍의 기판 중 어느 일측에 형성되는 투명 전극과, 상기 한 쌍의 기판의 다른 일측에 형성된 반사전극과, 상기 한 쌍의 기판에 협지되는 액정층을 갖춘 액정 라이트 밸브와, 위상차판을 갖춘 액정 표시 소자와, (b) 광원과, (c) 편광 광학 소자를 가지는 액정 표시 장치에 있어서,상기 액정 라이트 밸브와 상기 광원과의 사이에 상기 위상차판과 상기 편광 광학 소자가 배치되고, 상기 위상차판의 광학축과 상기 편광 광학 소자의 편광축이 어긋나서 배치되고,상기 액정층은 트위스트 네마틱 배향의 액정층이고,상기 액정 표시 소자에 있어서의 상기 액정층의 트위스트 각도가 50도에서 90도의 범위내이고, 상기 위상차판의 광학축과 상기 편광 광학 소자의 편광축이 이루는 각도의 절대치가 90도보다 작고 80도 이상인 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제4항에 있어서, 상기 액정 표시 소자에 있어서의 상기 위상차판의 리터데이션이, 100nm에서 175nm의 범위내인 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제4항에 있어서, 상기 위상차판의 리터데이션은 상기 위상차판으로의 입사광 파장의 대략 4분의 1인 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제5항에 있어서, 상기 액정 표시 소자에 있어서의 상기 위상차판의 리터데이션이, 100nm에서 175nm의 범위내인 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제5항에 있어서, 상기 위상차판의 리터데이션은 상기 위상차판으로의 입사광 파장의 대략 4분의 1인 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
