Abstract
PURPOSE:To measure the title element with accurate and stable transfer effi ciency by providing the solid-state image pickup element with a photosensing part which inputs a reference signal optically, reading it out according to normal signal charge transfer operation, and then adding remaining signal charges and reading them. CONSTITUTION:The photosensing part of the IT-CCD image pickup element 1 is provided with a light shield area 11 which cuts off light at both vertical and horizontal end parts. Windows 12 and 13 of one picture element are bored in the area. A vertical CCD 3 is applied with clock pulse phiV1-phiV4 and a horizontal CCD 4 is applied with clock pulses phiH1 and phiH2 through the driving of clock drivers 9 and 10. A timing control circuit 8 stops the driving of a bottom gate 14 and the final electrode phiH* of the horizontal CCD 4 so as to add signals left at the time of transfer efficiency measurement. Consequently, the output is obtained by adding the remaining quantity for a specific period and the measurement is performed with accurate transfer efficiency.
