Abstract

PURPOSE:To read out stored charges in correct timing, by preventing a transfer gate electrode from generation of signal leakage of clock pulses from a vertical transfer electrode, through driving of the vertical transfer electrode with a two-phase transfer clock pulse having complementarity at all times. CONSTITUTION:In driving a charge transfer image sensor, after the 1st field reads out the charge in photoelectric conversion region to a vertical transfer register 36 with the 1st transfer gate pulse 28 to the 1st or 2nd transfer vertical electrodes 33 or 34, the charge is transferred by one. The stored charge of the region corresponding to different electrodes 33, 34 from the region read out at a pulse 28 with the 2nd transfer gate pulse 29 is read out in a register 36, and after it is mixed with the charge read out by the pulse 28, the mixed charge is outputted for the unit video element 37 of the 1st field. In the 2nd field, pulses 28, 29 read out the charge at the region corresponding to one electrode group different from the 1st field, and mix and output the unit video element 38 of the 2nd field.
