Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve reliability, by inserting a superconductor between a power source and a load then applying a magnetic field higher than a critical field and making switching control of power supply/interruption thereby making the overcurrent interrupting section contactless. CONSTITUTION:A main switch 2 comprising a superconductor is inserted between a power source 6 and a load 7. A magnetic field generating means 1 for applying a magnetic field H1 higher than the critical field of the superconductor and a magnetic field generating means 3 for producing a cancelling field H2 are arranged near the main switch 2. Furthermore, switches 4, 5 for starting/ stopping the magnetic field generating means 3 are provided. Upon operation of the magnetic field generating means 3, the main switch 2 is brought into superconducting state and current flows through the load 7. Upon occurrence of abnormal load current, the main switch 2 is brought into normal conducting state thus enabling interruption of current.
