Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent rotary electric machine from being cut off from a power source when the tap of an auto-transformer is changed over, by a method wherein a parallel circuit consisting of a reactor and a switch is provided between a tap changeover short-circuit switch and the tap of the auto-transformer. CONSTITUTION:When a rotary electric machine 1 is started, first switches 6, 9, 5 and 7h are closed in order to supply the rotary electric machine 1 with the first step tap voltage. Then, after the switches 9, 6 are opened in order, a switch 7g is closed, and moreover the switch 7h is opened as well as the switch 6 is closed in order to supply the rotary electric machine 1 with the second step tap voltage. Then, after the switch 6 is opened, a switch 3 is closed to supply the rotary electric machine 1 with a supply voltage. Thereby, the rotary electric machine is never cut off from a power source when the tap of an auto-transformer is changed over. Accordingly, there is no possibility of generation of a rush current.
