Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the excessive inrush current generating when a tap switching is performed by a method wherein, when the rotary electric machine is started using a plurality of switching taps on an autotransformer, a current limiting element is connected in parallel to the switch connected to the tap. CONSTITUTION:Each tap of the autotransformer 4, consisted of solid wires 4a- 4c, is connected to the rotary electric machine 1, and at the same time, all the switches, excluding the switch 7 to be connected to the tap which generates the highest voltage, is connected to a reactor 9 which is a current limiting element. Accordingly, as the rotary electric machine 1 will not be released from the power source completely by the help of a reactor 9, even when both switches 6 and are disconnected at the same time when a tap switching is performed, the excessive inrush current arising from the phase difference between the residual current of the rotary electric machine 1 and the source voltage can be prevented, thereby enabling to perform a stabilized starting operation.
