Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a superconductor having lamellar structure and high and stable critical temperature and critical current density, by alternately laminating a principal layer consisting of copper, oxygen and a group IIIa element of the periodic table with an insertion layer having the composition of the principal layer provided with a part of the group IIIa element is substituted with a group IIa element. CONSTITUTION:A superconductor having a lamellar structure is produced by alternately laminating principal layers 2 and an insertion layers 3 on a substrate 1 (e.g. SrTiO3). The principal layer is composed of copper, oxygen and a third element selected from scandium, yttrium, lanthanoid element and actinoid element. The insertion layer 3 has a composition wherein at least a part of the third element of the principal layer 2 is substituted with calcium, strontium or barium. Since the obtained lamellar superconductor has periodic crystal structure, it is free from disturbance of crystal structure and lack in uniformity of the composition and has a stable superconducting characteristics.
